The UK Green Parties

The worst thing Polanski could have done is to apologise. Have they learned nothing from the Corbyn smears? There will never, ever be enough apologies to appease Zionists. Apologising to the institutionally corrupt MET Police too? A police force that has now very publicly interfered in politics in advance of local elections? Could it be any more obvious what's happening?

in this case I think the apology (I haven't read what he said) is probably for the best. just move on without giving the story endless oxygen.

I said elsewhere that the hatchet job on him has been absolutely wild, but he doesn't help himself.

BBC News - Polanski says he was wrong to claim he was a Red Cross spokesman

Mind you Badenoch has several lies in her CV.

I think every politician would be better off never retweeting and just using their own words on social media

Yeah he makes mistakes just like anyone does. If he can shrug them off in a "so what?" way like any populist politician does, he might have a chance.

He can, and I also quite like the way hes been using some of these attacks to reframe real issues and how wank the media is.

Weird that this just keeps happening and the Green spokespeople can't bring themselves to actually condemn their racist candidates.

I fear the Monster Raving Looney candidate might split the vote. Make Howling Laud Hope Normal Again.

I have now officially embedded myself within the local Green Party, following my first meeting. A lowkey role is on the horizon and a campaign to win the local ward begins here. It's a quite exciting side project and the opportunity I've been looking for.

I've enjoyed it very much but there is a frustrating element of idealism that sometimes stifles action, at least in my PWG - that said, its to be expected from the sort of people the party naturally attracts!

I genuinely think I've found a well needed focus for all my spare time. There appears to be a bit of a gap in my ward, which they ignored in last election (to my surprise as it's a young, low income, university educated area, full of renters in Victorian terraces - prime Green territory), but after coming second they're now focusing here. Genuinely excited to throw my lot in.

this seems like a good policy to be pursuing.

If passed, the legislation will create an independent body to recommend maximum safe workplace temperatures and set out how those recommendations should be implemented.
Her bill is expected to receive cross-party support and will be backed by the leftwing Labour MPs Rebecca Long-Bailey, Alex Sobel and Nadia Whittome as well as Graham Leadbitter from the Scottish National party, Liz Saville Roberts from Plaid Cymru and the independent MP Jeremy Corbyn.

it's wild that this doesn't exist already.

I think realistically this hasn't really been a significant issue in the UK until now, so it probably wasn't worth faffing around with the awkwardness with jobs like, say the fire service, glassblowers, or chefs, where they work at high temperatures as standard.

Based on this summer it definitely feels like it'll be necessary going forward.

The Greens are planning a media blitz before Burnham replaces Starmer in Downing Street on Monday, aimed at countering the idea that Burnham will offer a notably more left-leaning agenda, arguing he has gone quiet on several policies he previously supported.

In a social media post on Thursday, Polanski said the reported decision by Burnham to install Shabana Mahmood rather than Ed Miliband as chancellor showed he was “subservient to the City of London” and not up to the task of delivering change.

A Green plan, seen by the Guardian, to highlight what they see as weaknesses for Burnham focuses on a series of policy areas in which, as they portray it, “semi-skimmed Andy” offers only verbal support for policies, while the Greens propose “full-fat” implementation, which they say is backed by polling data.

These areas include rent controls. As Greater Manchester mayor, Burnham supported the idea, but has not committed to anything in No 10, whereas the Greens are pushing to impose them.

On a wealth tax, the Green document says Burnham seems likely to “fudge the issue” by changing capital gains tax thresholds, by comparison with their proposals for a separate wealth tax, an idea the party says is backed by 81% of 2024 Labour voters.

Burnham, in one of his few policy interventions since returning to parliament last month, apologised for Labour’s initial response to Israel’s military action in Gaza under Starmer. The Greens plan to contrast this with policies which include a ban on all UK arms exports to Israel and wider sanctions.

Polanski already differentiating the Greens from a more left-leading Burnham Labour and getting in ahead with critique of the Shabana Mahmood appointment. GOOD!

Oh Zack. I'm pretty sure this is just an insanely clumsy oversight but it really is time to hand off your social log-ins to a professional...

(Very fetching hat.)

:nononono:

Though if the person who uploaded it to Instagram is a green supporter then they are also an idiot for tagging in Zack
The hat does strongly suggest someone who is right wing imagining what a Green voter would look like.

It’s obviously not incitement to murder. If Farage is guillotined after receiving a fair trial for his crimes, then that is the operation of British justice and something that Reform are meant to be in favour of.

Why is the person next to the guillotine some sort of HOLLYWOOD NOIR SPY?

This is a strong question - I assume this relates to @dmlaw's entirely correct supposition that justice has been served and a detective who likes to look the part is admiring the results.

I despair about our awful press. After days of this dominating headlines, I hear it mentioned in passing on R2 news just now that this was image number 18 0f 20 on a carousel?! You'd think it was the only thing he'd reposted with a LOL GREAT T-SHIRT BUD caption

It's still fucking stupid and anyone high profile should have a social media manager giving full scrutiny to everything, but this context has been deliberately ignored.

it was picture 5 of 20. it was fucking lazy of him/his SM manager to post it without checking, let's be honest.

mistakes do happen but I watched the Newsnight interview and it was a bit of a car crash. his first line of defence being "it was a collaboration post that I was tagged in".... ummmm... hun it's on your feed. I feel like he went on very badly prepared. just own it.

Polanski should release a statement saying that he’s very sorry that he implied Nigel Farage should be guillotined when it’s quite clear that he should be hanged.

His refusal to apologise is bizarre. There isn’t an exemption from apologise just because a mistake was inadvertent. Most mistakes are.
And even then just apologise like the right do anyway

“Sorry if you were offended”

Colour me shocked that the guy who thinks it's so important to have control of his social media accounts so he can like and retweet everything positive said about him has managed to stumble into a scandal like this.

There was a SLIDING DOORS moment when that article came out clocking that he searches his name to like every positive post about himself, even ones that call female journalists who are critical of him TWATS and DICKHEADS. Like, he could have logged off, hired a social media manager, made hope normal again.

Instead he went on twitter the next day and tanked his favourability ratings :nononono:

I do also think it's a bit what you said before about a lot of the surge in Green membership being quite hostile to Labour and the idea of doing deals with them. I find myself thinking of the slightly deranged monologue by Stats for Lefties recently about how the Labour Party needs to be "completely crushed underfoot into the dust and replaced by the Greens". There's a lot of hatred there (not unreasonably!) from former Corbyn true believers.
I'd say it's slightly deranged from the position of half of what she believes in / that the Greens should advocate :D Plenty of people (indeed, the majority of the public) out there who are opposed to the Iran War, but I'm not quite sure there are many who are at the point of thinking "glory to the Iranian regime" isn't just a bit weird.
Stats for Lefties latest...

I have a feeling she's probably about to become the main character of the right wing press for the next week.
