Appleton - Side by Side

An appearance on THE GABY ROSLIN PODCAST has finally PROPELLED this to 100k spotify streams.

I still really like it and play it. It's dreamy.

Love that The Gaby Roslin Effect is finally being recognised up there with The One Show and the sole guest on Graham as essential milestone-reaching promo tools. Shaz Bags must be kicking herself.

a 4-track EP out in 3 months? :eyes:

01 Ready to Begin
02 Falling Into You
03 Strange Kinda Paradise
04 Monster
05 Witchita Lineman (live from Piano Room)

Oh I like that more than Falling Into You immediately. It shows noted vocal powerhouse Nat off to much better effect too.

Love the new song. Playing R2 in the park too. The reviews from Hoopla were very positive :disco:

Their streaming figures really are paltry, aren't they? Less than 120k in 5 months for Falling Into You, and 6.5k in its first week for Ready To Begin.

Yep really sub par!
Hoping their current and on going festival perfs raise the profile a bit.

Begin Again up to R2 A list

To be fair anything they do is a bonus really in 2026, and although disappointed we are not getting a full ALBAM, two other new songs coming after what I think have been two strong singals plus more confidence from NIC in her live capabilities, I am very happy.

I can't think anybody would have had any illusions about Appleton being a streaming force in 2026. The two singles were always just a means to have Radio 2 kindly remind everyone of their existence before they try for festivals. They'll have their eye on the Sugababes; never making money from recording but having a lovely old time on stage. They'll be able to offer a package deal to festival organisers; book Appleton and Mel Blatt will do the staff catering.

I do like the idea of them doing a token girl group cover at all these festivals and reeling out a reeling ex-member with a point to prove at the most deranged middle 8 moment a la Heidi hitting everything but a note with her painfully ironic "does it hurt when you see how well I've done" moment.

I don't expect Appleton to do much but those numbers are really poor. Sugababes managed a couple of million from their recent songs. All Saints last album had a couple million for the 2 'singles'. The main thing is I'm not sure I understand the strategy if they're not releasing an album - given their audience and R2 support, they could probably earn some good pocket money from a vinyl / CD release. But a digital EP isn't going to get them much. If this was to get them back on the road then fair enough, I hope they can earn a mint from festivals and the like.

I am not sure they are likely to do great numbers, but the EP is being released on CD and vinyl as well.

y'all are comparing appletons and oranges. probably about 25% of All Saints fans are really interested in Appleton... and All Saints are already a niche proposition in 2026

I think its just that. I don't think either sister is coming back to earn some shrapnel. They've GOT MONEY DARREN. Do you think THESE STREAMS are needed to pay their non existent mortgage?! They fly kites and everything on Primrose Hill.

When you think Appleton probably did less than 1/10th of All Saints' sales in their original timeline, it's about right that their new songs are also doing about a 1/10th of All Saints' last album.

It's frankly a MIRACLE they are even listed on a streaming platform. Given they were still pissing about with cassette player audios in the 00s, I figured they'd only be as far as MINI DISC in 2026.

How did Shaznay’s album perform for comparison?
416k Kiss of Life
250k Pick You Up
170k Good Mourning
100k Got to Let Go
20-50k album tracks

I think it should be noted that Shaznay's PR/management for this album was terrible in the sense that she just wasn't visible at all. the Appletons have already had much better promo/visibility.

It probably helps with the bookings that Appleton seem to be bezzie mates with everyone in showbiz.

Appletons did the GABY ROSLIN podcast too, I'd have expected a streams SURGE

To be fair with SHAZBAGS Kiss of Life seems to have taken a life of its own, but the other singles from that album including the lead Miracle very underwhelming numbers. What has been nice is some of the albam tracks doing better/same numbers as the singles that were promoted which is great, as its a superb album.

The Appletons need to call channel 5, get rid of Vanessa, make their pitch and reunite the girls. No, not All Saints, the girls:

The Appletons were always gonna be limited as a duo. Not all band members can go on to build a business empire like Victoria Beckham or Mel Blatt.

I think the most important comparison sales that you’re all failing to acknowledge is MEL’S BURGER SALES
Someone fax the OCC and find out how many streams are equivalent to a cheese quarterpounder.

For every stream of 'Falling into You' rumour HAS IT, that Mel Blatt eats one of her own burgers and calls it a SALE! She's lobbed 7 down her gob so far.

OCC and the NHSU (National Hamburger/Smashburger Union) are joining forces to investigate and produce a White paper of sorts. They are currently AGOG.

The steaming (hams) charts are so confusing these days.
