Most of London's change has been capitalism-driven through gentrification which, to be fair, isn't London exclusive.

I would say it has massively changed in terms of its identity. There are still distinct areas but that has flattened a fair bit.
 
London's literally always changing. It always has been and that's in many ways the beauty of it - that's a world metropolis for you. The London of the 90s doesn't exist anymore (and looked very different to the London of the 70s, and the London of the 50s, and the London of the 30s...) and that's largely a good thing - huge swathes of it were a complete grimy shithole that people didn't really want to live in!
 
I think one thing that's undeniably changed London is the ongoing proliferation of "luxury" new build residential projects all targeted at the wealthy. this is far beyond the natural change/churn of culture in a metropolis. at this point it feels like something being done to keep the corporations who build and market them in business rather than meet any actual demand - I wonder why the mayor hasn't worked harder to make sure that 50% (at a minimum) of all new build housing is low/medium income. it's just pushing people out for no reason - I'm sure half of the new builds aren't even occupied. in Canary Wharf the construction is ridiculous.

we should really stop building into the sky and refocus on sustainable, affordable housing.

Well this is true. I keep seeing a picture of Manchester then vs now with Deansgate station in the fore and all the skyscrapers in the background now.

People forget that the area was just low rise post war half empty industrial units. Same for Ancoats, when I moved here first time around it was warzone. Getting to Sankeys was a gauntlet.
 
I know this is not surprising but it’s stuff like this that needs to be spread far and wide. His double standard policy vomit is worse than Trump’s

 
The banning of gay library book displays in Essex has really enraged normal folk. I try not to think about it, but this gang of fucking inbreds would rather see us dead and they have some minor levers on power, and it's quite a worrying insight.

Thankfully I live in a city which is more leftie liberal than redneck Essex and apparently putting a pride flag on the town hall is now seen as provocative and daring.

There’s also additional planning red tape associated with any pride flag other than then standard one. Also copyright issues if you’re a business.
 
Domestic abuse cases also increase when they win, just not as much, so she should be calling on them to stop playing altogether really.
 
For the sake of women's safety we need to cancel the World Cup. It spikes when we win - it just goes up even more when we lose.

Its difficult to explain because places change .. Paris has changed to.. but London just feels really harsh to me, incredibly expensive, and so corporate, Starbucks and Costa and Pret everywhere. It also feels like there’s far less club nights or venues in general. Obviously it’s also to do with being at a different stage in my life but London used to be so incredibly exciting, just bursting with life and possibilities.
 
If I was going to point to one massive issue, of the many, it was Labour in 97 allowing the housing market to go mental and thinking this was a Good Thing. Buying a house - the most boring of all British fetishes, is now leagues beyond the average young person without a parental bail out - and frankly, those old people''s home charges are going to eat right in to all of THOSE plans. So that was a fuck up for sure, a slow moving one, but one none the less. My parents both had v v working class jobs and managed to buy a house in London in the 1970s - in a much much better job (in theory) I was unable to buy in any way like the same way. There are a lot of other issues as well - Not A Single One of which Reform have any meaningful answers to. But there are no quick solutions. Personally, I await our new robot overlords or aliens to come vaporise us - nothing is getting sorted out before then.

I don't feel like London is really a clubbing/nightlife city (anymore). but it's also an industry in trouble everywhere due to many factors like younger people being more health conscious, having less money to spend frivolously, the rising cost of rents for clubs etc...

I was so lucky to have bought with a friend in 94/95 (I forget which) when we were both earning about £11-12k I think.

And Mr L managed to buy at the age of 19 on his own in the mid 80s, with a small inheritance for the minimum deposit, when he was a shop assistant. It's not THAT long ago (or at least it's the time when most boomers who spout shite about cancelling subscriptions and avocado toast) and it's a totally different landscape.
