Commonwealth Games 2026 (Victoria) - GLASGOWED

We don’t want it!

*goes to every event*

It won’t have the same allure as it did in 2014 with it mopping up Australias shame.

Not sure if that is self sarcasm or aimed at me above, but I didn’t bother with any of Birmingham at all. Overpriced and meaningless.

Just change the name back to the British Empire Games if we're going to keep hosting it in the UK.

Athletics at Scotstoun stadium.

This has got to be the last one? Who’s gonna turn up and run around Scotstoun stadium?

If they're hosting on a budget, couldn't they take Clyde out of storage and give him a quick once over with the Febreze?

I've been to a few track meets at Scotstoun. The very idea of it being a Commonwealth Games venue is tickling me.

I think Finnie looks great. The cone for the horn is a nice touch.

If they wanted to do it on a budget, his
costume is just lying in storage somewhere! No need to bring more cursed things into the world!

This sounds like another nail in the coffin. There's clearly an issue around financing but putting the games coverage behind a subscription service in the UK won't bring audiences in.
And surely if the BBC weren't willing to fork up enough to beat some random subscription service, they can't have been willing to pay very much at all? Which just goes to show how little interest there is in this

Aw that's a shame. For TNT the explosive came to mind first :D 💥 but it seems doubtful this is going to explode (maybe implode) 😅

Back in 2014, I got a photo with the mascot Clyde  and the big G (the year before Google rebranded haha)
(I stay with my auntie who lives in Glasgow, Castlemilk now but nearer Motherwell back then). I'd probably go and have a look around. ☺️

So they are now not being shown on terrestrial TV? These games are so OVAH O-V-A-H OVAH, aren't they.

Being a massive Athletics and Swimming fan they provided some good moments over the years, but Worlds and Olympics just makes them redundant. Even more so in modern times with the state of the Royals and the outdated notion of Commonwealth.

The opening ceremony for this is TODAY and you wouldn't even know it was on. Last time, you couldn't move in Glasgow for the games.

Commonwealth Games DEAD...tired

It's a shame because there is a huge post World Cup vid to fill so I think it could have done well with proper coversage.

There's a funfair outside BARCLAYS with the smallest "big wheel" there's ever been and a lassie singing Alanis Morrissette songs with no-one watching. THE GLAMOUR.

Everything about this screams TRAGIC. I was thinking about catching some of the sports on TNT but now I fear I might catch the lurgy if I do.

Pass.

It’s on TNT sports but I don’t think it’s on the premium one is it? Like I think it’ll be accessible through HBO max? More like Eurosport than Sky Sports.

If TNT paid more for the coverage or not, not being able to see it wall to wall on the BBC is going to do more harm than good. BBC would have talked up every event like we were witnessing the finest athletes at the top of their game which would lead people to visit the venues etc. TNT might do the same but no one’s going to see it.

I don’t think Glasgow should have taken on Australia’s shame tbh. It was going to flop wherever it happened but now it’ll look like it flopped because of Glasgow despite their excellent 2014 games.

Was that for the games or for the Barclays campus?

Was through in Glasgow just there for a bit of Spanish (so doing my part). It's only just occurred to me that's why there were so many Scottish flags about.

I looked at the timetable for the athletics today and some of the sessions are hilariously thin.

I liked that opening ceremony overall (watching on TV, visited a bit early for the Games and didn't go to the city centre this time). Nice to know Clyde the thistle is back

It is on the HBO Max basic tier. Whoever leant in on “it’s on TNT sports” was really poor messaging.

Alas I’ll watch any old sport but I can’t even get into the MALE gymnastics here.
