a moopy eurovision game

How should this work?

  • Countries - artist must be from that country

  • Countries - artist must have an association with that country

  • Countries - just for fun - can just be applied to any song

  • No use of countries at all

Results are only viewable after voting.
I do prefer Suomi's idea, but whatever. I'm down for anything.

Surely country allotment should be random.

This is the only point I am not sure about.

Do we
A- Allow first come first served with country
B - Randomly allocate a country to someone. But what list of countries do we use?
C - We could randomly order everyone and the first chooses their country, then the next chooses theirs etc. Only issue is that the further down the list you are the less options you may have.

B. I'm sure we can work out a reasonable list.

IM IN regardless of what form it takes, I’m bloody bored! I do like the idea of just picking any song you’d like, and it could be used as a testing ground for future games.

UK
USA
Ireland
Sweden
Australia
Germany
Netherlands
Italy
Norway
Canada

Feasible that whole continents or regions, for less prolific regions.

Actually the country thing is VERY LIMITING.

There's loads you could have:

Canada
France
Belgium
Finland
Denmark
Spain
Mexico
Greece
UK could be split into the 4 countries.

It shouldn't be THAT hard to find a song if you are prepared to do a little bit of searching. It's not as if we are asking people to select a song for Burkina Faso!

I feel like then you're potentially trying to make a square fit into a circle (or something) I think instead if the focus is on the music and then you're just randomly allocated a country so that you can have a flag and a nice backstory, then that would work to get the most involvement. So many Eurovision acts aren't actually from the country they are representing, I just don't think it matters if Rosie Ribbons - Blink is representing Mongolia.

i'd rather first come first served country-wise but i'm down for whatever.

i can help with mp3s if that is necessary but i think putting them in a youtube playlist should be good enough. does everyone have ad blocker? :hitler:

my only concern on first glance is the voting - particularly if there will be enough votes for the "jury" points.

oh and i would've liked the songs to have live performances instead of videos but there you go. maybe next time.

yay.

Actually, I think limiting to certain countries is also limiting. If Bev wants to send a Lebanese song then let him.

So how about trying a free-for-all, and if we have 17 American songs, we have 17 American songs. USA I, USA II etc. Hopefully people will select other stuff, but let's see how it goes. I would prefer to have one song per country but if we can't find a way to manage that and people just want to choose a song free from country restrictions then fair enough.

Also, can we make sure we have a bit more imagination that Rosie fucking Ribbons? :D

why is everyone so hung up on the country rule? let whoever has an international artist in mind pick a country first and then randomly allocate other countries to whoever doesn't.

The other really hardcore way is that, we could have PRE SELECTIONS for those counties with more than one entrant. So say 5 people choose a Norwegian song, we have a vote on the 5 and the winner goes through. The losers can then select another song to choose from from the countries left. So the rarer the country you choose the more chance you have of making it through. Just a thought. or is that TOO MUCH?

We need a poll huns.

Countries - artist must be from that country
Countries - must have an association
Countries - just for fun - can just be applied to any song
No use of countries at all

And perhaps Spotify only so we can compile playlists and perhaps have a competition for best cover art design for the playlist.

No? We may get further quicker will a poll :)

I like the idea of countries, although I’m currently not working so have a lot of time to discover rare sultry Bosnian gems.

I've added a poll. I'll leave it open for a few days to see how people feel and we will take it from there.

If this isn't directly related to Eurovision songs or artists (and is just "Eurovision style"), would it make sense to move it to a different forum and/or change the thread title, to appeal to users who aren't Eurovision fans and may not look at threads in this forum?

I understand it's not just A Song For Moopy again but we'd want it to get as much interest as possible surely?

I see we have a result. GOOD.

I'm happy to start this, this evening. Someone needs to fucking take charge.

Poor Kala, what’s the point of doing a Eurovision game in the Eurovision forum if it’s just going to be a song for Moopy (and not even that if it’s a known song) with a flag stuck on it?

I think there should be some association with the country (even just songwriters or lineage) otherwise we might as well just to ASFM in Moopy Moop. Can’t we just try it?

I'm starting to plan the next round of this, but I will wait until this round is over AND Mafia is finished so perhaps in 2 weeks or so.

I am going to do things a little differently though to shake it up a bit and have been thinking of the following rules...

- There will be a THEME, so all songs must follow this theme. This will become clearer nearer the time once I have decided on a theme. An example could be 'Songs which mention a person's name in the title', so therefore 'Gloria' by Laura Branigan or 'Dear Jessie' by Madonna would be eligible. Or 'non Eurovision-songs performed by Eurovision artists - therefore 'SOS' by ABBA or 'Devil Woman' by Cliff Richard will be eligible.

This does mean you cannot just enter anything and you'll have to do some digging to find a song to fit the theme.

- To make things a bit more interesting, both the artist name and song title will be SECRET. Therefore no YouTube or Spotify playlists will be made. Each song will be randomly allocated a country, this will not necessarily have links to the song or singer but is just for identification.

- All songs will have to be sent to me via mp3, and then a download link will be posted for you to download and listen. NO discussion of who the artist or songs are will be allowed, but you can still review the songs, and say if you know the song etc.If you are not able to source a copy of the song then let me know and I will try to source it - there's YouTube and Spotify rippers etc that can be used.

I know this makes things a little harder but this opens it up to allow you to submit something which isn't on Spotify or YouTube or has a video, also songs which have a video and are on Spotify is an advantage. Spotify has LOADS but it definitely does not have everything, and I think people should decide their votes on the SONG itself and not be influenced by any factors.

Thoughts?
