it's really not a bad idea at all to keep it relatively frequent. a lot can happen in the space of 2-3 years. a very active poster can become someone who logs in once a month and barely contributes. in fact that does happen with mods. better to keep it regular.

again - even if the mod personnel doesn't change, or nobody volunteers, just giving users the opportunity once a year and having an election if required feels like a good way of keeping everything fresh and making sure the current team comprises active posters. I feel like you're reacting as though something seismic is being suggested rather than a simple annual check-in.

A higher turnover may reduce mod efficacy though because new people have to be trained and find their footing - especially in the treacherous waters of Mooyp. A biennial election might be better than annual.

And in terms of reducing efficiency, I'd personally be in favour of expanding the team of mods over replacing any, anyway.

I don't see an urgent need for annual elections, but once every two years (with the occasional MOD BY-ELECTION if someone fancies buggering off ) seems like a decent way to return to some semblance of regularity.

I'm not sure testing the water by leaving it here, is the right way forward. Having an active topic actually announcing the election, is more likely to encourage posters to get involved.

Probably yes. I don't see why not.

Although admin shouldn't canvass their own election. There is bias. One of the current @Moderator team should do it. That's the usual way.
