I know the instinct is recoil at spinoffs like this, but I actually think this could work. She has more main character than the likes of Kevin and Mandy whose roles were arguably funnier, but very much on the side of Julia. Amanda could work on her own.

As much as I love her, I hope Joanna Lumley isn't a full time cast member, and that she just appears every now and then to wreak havoc. She works well as a guest, imo.
 
People are questioning why Motherland was cancelled in the replies, but do we know that it was? I think all I read was Diane Morgan saying there wouldn't be any more, and just assumed that Anna Maxwell Martin or the writers had decided they didn't want to do it any more. Certainly it didn't seem to be waning in popularity, from what I could tell.

As Sharon Horgan is still producing and Holly Walsh co-writing (not sure if the other writers mentioned were also on board for Motherland), I assume it was Maxwell Martin who didn't want to do it.
 
Did Amandaland air and I missed it? Seems like a long wait.

I was absolutely thrilled recently while browsing through iPlayer for classic Christmas episodes to discover that there was a Motherland Christmas special I’d never seen before (not the Amanda Soirée at the end of season 2, but an actual special after season 3).

It was brilliant, but i had nobody to warn me about the Queen Of Sheba style devastation that was to come and was left in a puddle of mess by the end.
 
Peter Serafinowicz was on Richard Herring's podcast a few weeks back. He's joined the cast, and said it was filming then.
 
I used to have the biggest crush on Samuel Anderson. But he did not look good in the Gaving & Stacey Finale alas.
 
Nothing against the names 'unveiled', but it feels like a big fucking leap to call them STAR-STUDDED

V excited for Amandaland though.
 
@Moderator, can this thread be moved out of archive? I assume it's there because it was originally split out of the Motherland thread which was there.
 
I was a bit "meh" when I first heard, because she was the most hateful character in Motherland, but then I remembered that Sharon Horgan is amazing at writing awful lead characters :disco: so I shall be partaking!
 
Obviously LizLand would have been my first choice, but the great thing about Motherland is that many characters were so well written that you have a solid foundation for their character, plus the potential of opening up entirely new worlds. I personally cannot wait.

My sister in law is a Kelly and I have genuinely lost count of the amount of hilarity this gag has caused me over the years. And seemingly nobody else in the family.

Anyway, I forgot about this until I saw tweets today. And I didn't realise it was all dropping at once. If I can persuade someone to go to bed reasonably early, I fully intend seeing it all in one sitting tonight :disco:
 
I’m working my way through Motherland for the first time, I’m on season 2, it’s nice to see this is lying in store at the end of the three seasons when I get there.
 
Only watched the first episode but I really enjoyed it, though the constant cringe level is unsurprisingly higher than Motherland.

Not sure about a couple of the new characters yet (in particular I'm waiting to see if the stepdad has any point). I did think making Lumley's character more vulnerable softened her a bit, which I think worked well and is probably necessary if she is going to be a regular.

A Hyacinth Bucket for 2025 does feel appropriate.
 
I hope Anne being a complete pushover isn’t the crux of the whole series. I didn’t really enjoy/find it funny in Motherland but it also wasn’t every second line in the show.

I know what you mean but she did make Amanda hold the sick tub.
 
I'm on ep 4 and having a glorious time. I think I'm enjoying it more than Motherland - certainly the most recent series of that, at least.

The terrific ep 4 sequence going from "She's got scoliosis from years of looking down on people" via R Kelly and Barry Keogan's mickey, into the Zoom with all the Pats, is my highlight so far. I was near delirious from laughing

Binged the rest of it on a flight this morning and fair to say this didn’t really come up much and the whole series was all kinds of fabulous.
 
Can't say I was very taken with the first ep but I shall PERSEVERE
