Artificial Intelligence (2 Viewers)

It is scary how much people are relying on this to get through day to day. I work in the medical field and one suggestion they have is using AI services to help “fine tune” care plans and I’m like THAT’S OUR JOB TO MAKE THEM. A computer doesn’t need to be involved in a plan of care… my EYES LOOOKING AT THE PATIENT needs to be involved.
 
There are definitely some fields that have NO BUSINESS handing things over to a still-juvenile AI.

But alas AI has become such CORPORATE WORD BINGO for everyone, it's now become a crutch for any and every aspiring middle-manager who wants to climb the ladder. "GUYS LET'S DO AI..." "Sure Theo, I mean we run a care home where we need to literally physically wipe shit, but yes let's action that"

I'm done with my industry anyway and have been looking at what I could retrain as/return to school for. I'm quite curious about therapy/psychology - does this strike people as a sector that will survive AI or will we also fully outsource our own mental health to the machines?
 
My completely uninformed opinion is that one will be halfway.

There will absolutely be a lot of people out there smelling the potential to create an online chatbot posing as a therapist, and they'll entice people who cannot afford or don't want to pay for the real thing.

Fuck knows the human damage that one would do

I work for BIG CORPORATE and it makes me laugh how they're trying to push AI onto us as the next big thing, making us do silly little training modules in it alongside health and safety and manual handling. We see your game! To quote @Shoat I absolutely have been in meetings about "DOING AI!!!!1!", it's great. :sugar:

As someone half responsible for raising one of the sparks of the next generation, I am 100% gunning for him to go into something manual. I've always said schools focus too much on academia anyway.

My company has been pushing us to use our internal AI tool. ‘It can help you with your emails’ :eyes: Sure, Jan, that’s definitely the endpoint here :eyes:

:D I'm literally facing that right this week. We've all been getting lots of celebratory invites to join "AI University", and lots of the Exec making giddy LinkedIn posts about it, and it really feels like a PR stunt rather than a genuine reach. I'm being tricked into befriending my replacement.

They've made lots of effort to reference how they're adopting a "human-first" approach so that there's no need for fear. But I already know of two colleagues being made redundant because of AI tools taking their work. CHAMPERS FOR THE BOARD ROOM :disco:
 
They just added an AI tool to our payroll where we can ask things like “Where do I request time off” when it’s ON THE SAME FUCKING PAGE 2 lines down

I'll be very surprised if these chatbots don't start spitting out incel shit at some point.

The podcast I shared earlier in the thread touched on this. The company behind the chat bots in that was Russian and started spewing Russian Propaganda :manson:

So much discourse has been given to the sci-fi of "what if AI starts THINKING FOR ITSELF" that few have considered "what if AI is orchestrated by the WRONG EVIL BASTARDS to control groupthink" which should surely have been an obvious inevitability.

For the good of society we might need to EXECUTE anyone attempting to use AI chatbots (for anything other than images of Enya doing despicable things to fruit).
 
Whenever I use Copilot, it will always as me if I want my results to be queer-coded. Wonder what I’ve done in the past to routinely make it suggest that.

Them looking differently isn't enough of a reason to hate this because the technology will improve. They need to focus on the ethical reasons - I can't believe the industry is even allowing this precedent. They need to strike and protest and shut this down. I have no problem with AI used as avatars for existing people - recreating dead people, making older people look young, recording speech and movement and then having the ability to change the dialogue in post... all of that is fine. But original 'actors' is the most ridiculous thing and needs to be stopped. It has so many far reaching implications if we allow this to be 'normal'.

I mean there probably is a generational thing as well, and I'd love to see some research on it. The vibe I get is that Millennials and Gen Xers are the most sceptical of AI, and those younger and older are much more comfortable with it. I'm not particularly sure why though, should that be the case.
 
I must ask some teens on the issue, next time we're using laptops or PCs.

They all use it and enjoy it, the way anyone does, I've never heard them rave about it, in the way our generation did when the Internet first appeared. Coursework was already dead due to the Internet, homework will have be very creative to have any worth ongoing.

I think anyone who has been through Uni before AI, absolutely sees it as problematic. Kids just see a short cut, which doesn't necessarily enhance the thought process.

There is a hope that there are elements of the generation brought up on screens, are seeking more authentic experiences, that the web has killed. Some of them love vinyl for that reason for example.
