Artists You Should Like But Don't

Given my age, my generation and my premium 'Friend of Dorothy' card carrying credentials - Kylie, Steps and Lady Gaga.

I've prolapsed for many of the recent stools of Steps, but beyond some singles I wasn't interested in them at the time at all. I think I was pursuing more glamorous rock music and more strident dance emotions at the time. Last Thing On My Mind and Love's Got A Hold of My Heart were the keepers although I was definitely fond of Heartbeat, Better Best Forgotten and laterly rated Summer of Love a top drawer rip off of Saint Etienne's Pale Move and immediately appreciated the GAP style video (a Claire bellowed megaton). Stomp and the more enduring Make Me Feel didn't quite cause the same dance-pop thrush.

Beyoncé
Kate Bush
Lana del Rey
Madonna
Taylor Swift

I don’t hate any of them, but none of them are artists I go wild over. Madonna is probably the one I like the most but I only own Immaculate Collection and no albums or singles. Probably because I got into music at the exact same time that Kylie released Lucky and she became my #1 priority instantly. I have always liked Madge’s singles but I have never been compelled to listen to her albums.

Beyoncé went big solo as I started to lose interest in R&B. I loved that genre so much in the 90s, and even used to by Blues & Soul magazine but as rap was infiltrating R&B more in the mid 00s I moved away from it. I really didn’t like Renaissance on the only listen I gave it. I’d probably put modern day Mariah in here too for the same reasons but I was a huge fan up Glitter and then after that she lost me.

Kate I dunno, I only really know her two big songs but never desired to seek out more. I know she is adored on here but I just don’t click with her.

Lana has always come across a bit too pretentious to me and her music is too laid back for my tastes.

Taylor has never really captured me for some reason, I think her obsessive Swifties put me off her, though I do like the odd single from her. Just not Look What You Made Me Do, which is diabolical.

I probably would have put Lady Gaga on here a number of years ago just for the abomination of Jewels & Drugs but she has grown me somewhat.

This topic is gay self hate.

But saying that I cannot fathom Taylor Swift whatsoever. She's deeply obnoxious and clearly a terrible person, her voice is nauseating and her songs are self obsessed garbage. Why we have a forum for her is beyond my understanding. I broadly have time for almost every artist that I stereotypically should, even Gwen Stefani has redeeming features, but what Taylor Swift offers entirely grates on me on every level.

Beyonce is ok. Fine. Respect her.

But little more interest in her music than the likes of the Black Eyed Peas to be honest.

I’ve never liked PJ Harvey OH AT ALL, even though she’s the sort of singer I might theoretically like. Someone once bought me one of her albums and NO THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Oh this. I can't bring myself round to actively disliking her, but none of her music does anything for me.

I should like solo Debbie Harry more than I do I feel.
Hmmm, I think she hasn’t delivered as a solo artist consistently well and I’m in a similar would like to love but don’t love position. I don’t really see people raving about her solo work so maybe we are RIGHT.

For me it’s Steps and Sarah McLachlan I’d say.

Koo Koo is the only Debbie Harry solo album I see as somewhat highly regarded. I bop to them all of course, except Necessary Evil.

Beyoncé is great to watch and admire as a performer, but her music is just so much of a nothingness. I really can’t see anything she’s done in the last decade holding up in 20 years time.

I'm trying to think of a single artist I should like more and I don't, but I can't find a valid reason for any.

Taylor Swift is one of the few I really like BUT I am also very much aware of why some people loathe her as an artist and as a celebrity and clearly she does herself no favours :D :disco:

Yeah, I can't find a single reason why I should like her, absolutely NOT.
