Oh it has a couple of nice bits but the city centre is FERAL come Friday or Saturday night and there’s nothing to do. Cheltenham is much classier.
Erm I don’t recall great exp with dentists when I lived there…though that was over ten years ago now...
I'd hope the crowds might navigate more towards Gloucester Quays now and have an unfortunate incident in the docks.

And I've also heard reports that Hull is 'up and coming'. But I usually take that to mean 'very much still a shit hole at present'.

I trust someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

They don't like to mention it but they were City of Culture in 2017.

I went to the cathedral which was lovely, did a river walk, and had a root canal. It was all very pleasant.

Do you know Cheltenham? You'll love it. It's full of places where you can pay £14 for a crap cocktail but that will look great on Instagram.

Blackpool is a dump, smells of fried sugar and chicken fat, and attracts the WORST kind of people. The hotels are almost entirely rubbish. The entertainment is the epicentre of out of date, end-of-pier trash. It needs a massive cleanup but while it remains popular with a CERTAIN type of person, they don’t really need to do it. So there it remains, a cesspit of the north :)

I am eternally obsessed with the fallen grandeur of blackpool, its full of run down beautiful buildings, propped up by crumbling 70s concrete. All rusted and battered by the sea air without a hope of ever returning to glory. I hope it never changes.

Oh but also the best French restaurant I've ever been to in this country (please do go @AleX the next time you return around those parts).

:D I've never been to Cheltenham and I'd certainly never pay £14 for one drink.

I used to work with a woman from Lytham. She insisted by Northern standards she was well spoken and quite posh. We laughed at her.

Perhaps she was right all along.

Well it's ALL RELATIVE :D

It's just quaint and old fashioned, I wouldn't say posh. Ironically it's the cities with the money that create the posh parts. Manchester and Liverpool probably contain the poshest parts of the North West.

I've just remembered I quite liked Birmingham as well. Especially the canal area.

Don't worry, it has a Wetherspoons as well. I imagine.

No, it is lovely though. Much more genteel than Gloucester, and undoubtedly nicer to look at, other than Gloucester Cathedral. Make a weekend of it and go to Tewkesbury and Evesham as well :)

What about the FABLED GOLDEN TRIANGLE? Or is that just new money now?

I suppose it depends where you frequent in most cities, no? Where the likes of Blackpool and Brighton would be mainly catered for these sort of groups.

Someone posted pictures on here that had a load of undesirables in kebab shops (ahem…) and the like covered in cheap illuminous GARB. Was it @jyxz ? Were those pics from Blackpool?
What did I do?

I shall take note, if we ever go back to the Cotswolds.

Or you could do it with Worcester and the Malvern Hills. I know how you like to get your walking boots on.
Actually I think we're fairly near there in September. We're staying near the Elan valley area.

What was it called again ? Everytime i’m back that way it just seems to much if an EFFORT to go to Cheltenham for the night, though I suppose now we have UBER i wouldn’t have to contend with the night bus :zombie:

I couldn't remember if I'd mentioned it before. It's L'Artisan, although googling it I've discovered it's reinvented itself as a cafe/bistro now and closes at 4pm. Doesn't it say a lot about Cheltenham that a bistro can afford to shut at 4pm :D

They do a Tour de France lunchtime menu which concentrates on different regions every month. Currently it's LA BOURGOGNE :france:

I also just found it on the search function there are not THAT many references to Cheltenham on moopy. Maybe now my mum has had her knee op I can take her for a lunchtime treat !

Oh it's very definitely a 'take your mum' kind of place. She'll love it. You'll almost certainly think it's bordering on TWEE, but I pretty much guarantee you'll surrender to it.

The current Burgundy menu, as I'm on their mailing list

For starters: Cheese “Gougères”, Dill Cream (Baked savoury choux pastry made of choux dough mixed with cheese) or “Meurette” Poached Egg, Salad with Lardons et Croutons
For the Main: Smoked « Montbéliard » Sausage, Lentils and Carrots, Whole grain Dijon Mustard Cream or Pan-fried Trout Fillet, White Wine Chablis Sauce
For desserts: Blackcurrant Mousse, Gingerbread Crumble or «Délice de Bourgogne», a decadent triple-cream cheese, Onions Confiture cooked in Burgundy red wine

2 Courses… £19.95
3 Courses… £24.95

Oh and Chester.
Sorry can't ACCOM.

Lytham has a BOOTHS darlings, my grandma used to shop there

Blackpool is a rancid hole. I'll never forget my day out there with Mad Mike where I spent all the train journey back persuading him not to TOP HIMSELF. A fitting end to the experience.

I had to google that, because it's not in the North West! I don't know the area at all. I've been to Oxford and found it DISAPPOINTING. I was expecting castles and canals and it was just like any other large town. Cambridge, I hear, is much better.

I'm sure there's some LOVELY parts of the shires.

I mean the Golden Triangle in Cheshire.

I just checked and I have no idea. Cheshire generally is LOVELY though.

The Golden Triangle of Cheshire is rich but it’s not posh. It’s mainly footballers, Real Housewives and similar terrible people.

It has a Booths and three branches of Waitrose though :disco:
