Yeah I totally get wanting a break from the UK. We haven't done a foreign holiday since before covid. But we do have a cruise booked for November finally.

I think I just like the ease of a UK holiday. You're can drive at your own pace, stop for lunch, we always choose nice accommodation with a hot tub and a view, and then just relax, go for walks and sight see.

My recommendation would be DON’T BOTHER GOING as there’s a fractured vibe to it which I don’t like and it’s much more provincial than it likes to think it is BUT there is a very good fish and chip restaurant which MIGHT be Bardsley’s

The UK is beautiful in parts and I haven’t been to near as much as I would have liked to at this point but life always tends to get in the way unexpectedly.
 
I’m currently spending a couple of weeks in London after DRAMATICALLY QUITTING MY JOB and I love being back :disco: I’ve already landed 3 clients as a sole trader and I hope to be back living here in the next 6 months
 
They are both very popular with stag and hen dos, you are correct Rita.

And they both have a beach.

I've never been to Blackpool and now I don't want to go :D

They both have it but the cities are just very different. They both have a promenade and beach but that’s it.
 
Aren't all cities popular with stag and hen dos? Bristol, Bath and Cardiff are always seem full of them if ever I'm out on a Friday or Saturday evening.

I've been to Blackpool once, with my family for the day before they dropped me off at college in Lancaster. I thought it seemed reasonably EXOTIC, although that was probably because we stayed in Morecambe. Now that was an armpit of a place.
 
Blackpool is a dump, smells of fried sugar and chicken fat, and attracts the WORST kind of people. The hotels are almost entirely rubbish. The entertainment is the epicentre of out of date, end-of-pier trash. It needs a massive cleanup but while it remains popular with a CERTAIN type of person, they don’t really need to do it. So there it remains, a cesspit of the north :)

Brighton is very cosmopolitan. It has trashy seaside elements but it has lots of other elements, it’s a mish mash melting pot. Blackpool is just a POT :D

Liverpool is the fucking capital of them. They’re largely avoidable though as they go to the student end with all the noisy cheap bars.

And I’m saying all this having not been to Blackpool in at least TEN YEARS :D

But I can’t imagine it has changed :)

Yes I love Cardiff more each time I visit.

Always stunned by the FASHIONS on display though. Staggering around town on a weekend is like being in the auditions for Popstars or Popstars:The Rivals.

I suppose it depends where you frequent in most cities, no? Where the likes of Blackpool and Brighton would be mainly catered for these sort of groups.

Someone posted pictures on here that had a load of undesirables in kebab shops (ahem…) and the like covered in cheap illuminous GARB. Was it @jyxz ? Were those pics from Blackpool?
 
Brighton is the only place I’ve ever got lost walking on ONE ROAD and it’s happened more than once on the SAME ROAD. I normally have a very good sense of direction so I can only conclude that there’s EVIL in the air :shock:

I just mean around city centre places in general. More than likely not too far from a Slug and Lettuce.

I used to work with a woman from Lytham. She insisted by Northern standards she was well spoken and quite posh. We laughed at her.

Perhaps she was right all along.
 
I think York may be one of the prettiest cities I've visited.

Exeter is an average city. Nice people, it seems fairly clean and there was some nice shops.

Yes, York (and Lincoln as I said last week) are the English cities I most want to visit. I did go through York once when I was much younger, but too young to appreciate it.

I like Exeter, but it is pretty unexceptional. The best thing about it is the proximity to the coast and Dartmoor. It also has a decent small art scene, due to being a university city.

Lytham is definitely much posher than Blackpool, but then rubbing a Christmas tree air freshener on your arse and saying that you’ve had a wash is much posher than Blackpool.

I adore York, and think Yorkshire on the whole is very pretty.

And I've also heard reports that Hull is 'up and coming'. But I usually take that to mean 'very much still a shit hole at present'.

I trust someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
 
I once went to Morecambe with some friends and some people on the train were aghast and exclaimed, Why aren’t you going to BLACKPOOL? Frankly it all turned very ugly in Morecambe so YEAH QUITE

It is a wonderful base ! The twenty minutes to Exmouth or Dawlish on the train was a joy

Oh it has a couple of nice bits but the city centre is FERAL come Friday or Saturday night and there’s nothing to do. Cheltenham is much classier.
Erm I don’t recall great exp with dentists when I lived there…though that was over ten years ago now...
