Definitely a solid album. The very early Britney sounding album tracks (Let Me Be, Bombastic Love, That's Where You Take ME, When I Found You, Anticipating) can sometimes be a bit rubbish.

Ruined by a couple of absolute stinkers, but her most consistent album for me. (Does that make sense? It has fewer stinkers than In The Zone, but fewer highs too..)

"Slave" and, oddly, "Bombastic Love" are the two I actually quite like from this and "Overprotected" and "Not A Girl" get an occasional spin.

The rest though... what a load of drivel. "Boys" (either mix) I find utterly unbearable and "Cinderella" and "I Love Rock & Roll" aren't far behind in the awfulness stakes.

I love Anticipating, it’s just so gay and jolly.

It was a French buzz release don’tcha know!

My favourite Britney album. I was 14 when this was released and remember it being played quite a bit, it was the last time I remember being interested in her.

These ratings would have been MUCH higher in 2001/2 ;)

This album is what Janet Jackson's All For You album would sound like if the latter wasn't so utterly mediocre. (bar a few tracks)

I don't see the comparison at all, aside from them both being women and the album being released around the same time.

"Anticipating" (All for You, Come on Get Up), "Lonely" (Trust a Try) come to mind

I think this was the last time I genuinely liked her :( This album was (and still remains) amazing. IN The Zone was very good but I remember having lots of filler plus I was growing tired of her in general

I just found my copy and it has 3 bonus traxx not found in the US edition :disco: I'm not gonna play it though, I haven't since mid 2009 and intend to keep it that way

UPS and DOWNS, the Pharell songs were really SHIT, sorry to say. It was very patchy and it had too many producers.

ANYONE who says I'm A Slave 4 U is shit needs SHOOTING.

I'm just going to change my score to make up for jonathan being so RIDIC!

A FANTASTIC pop album which successfully bridges the gap between Max Martin and the plethora of producers that would go on to work with/for her. Probably not ENOUGH of a jump for the critics, and singles-wise relied as heavily on her tried-and-tested formula ('Overprotected', 'I'm Not A Girl...') as it did the new stuff.

STILL:

Bonus:
07 When I Found You
09 I Run Away
10 Before The Goodbye

Is there anyone who doesn’t like Before The Goodbye?

Probably one her most wasted songs ever. A bonus track? Pfffft.

Is it true this is just a DEMO though? I read something about Brit and BT having a fallout and hence not finishing a lot of stuff.

That's what I "heard" too, which just makes me unbelievably sad as this and "I Run Away" were the best things about this project. Can you imagine if the whole thing had been BT produced? It could have been the perfect step-up from Max Martin as well as a really cohesive album with proper strong pop stompers that she was known for. Oh well, not to be obviously...

I think this album is easily one of her strongest (by far the best of the first 4 anyway) but generally lacking the BIG highs. That said I adore "Cinderella" and always dreamed of it being released, and yes "Anticipating" is pure joyous fluff. The singles really were some of the worst things on it :zombie: Amazing it went platinum here...

Fabulous album. Only beaten by In The Zone for me.

Cinderella and Let Me Be are both utterly wonderful. And Overprotected obviously.

Second only to Blackout for me.

10 Before The Goodbye

The highs are full on 11/10 moments but the lows really are abysmal- as a result I never play it, though I did only buy it for two quid a couple of years ago to have the amazing Before The Goodbye on cd...

And I forget who ssid it earlier but yes, anyone who thinks I'm A Slave 4 U is rubbish Really deserves to have no opinion. Or testicles....

It's REALLY good.

Britney album rank -

1. Blackout
2. In the Zone
3. Circus
4. Britney
5. Baby One More Time
6. Oops! I Did it Again

I really DON'T MIND the 'Oops!...' album. It was quite an interesting move to start chasing the pop-country crossover market with stuff like 'Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know', 'Where Are You Now' and 'When Your Eyes Say It' and there are still plenty of early Max Martin uptempos packed in.

I'm quite shocked to see people thinking Oops! is the worst. There are SO MANY lows on BOMT.

Oops is alright, has some stinkers but worth it for "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know", "Lucky" and "Stronger"

Baby One More Time is SHIT aside from some of the singles....

The first two albums are really in a different category to the following four, but I still quite like both. Obviously they are mainly about the singles, but tracks like "Can't Make You Love Me", "What U See", "Don't Go Knocking On My Door", "Autumn Goodbye" and "I Will Be There" are damn good pop tunes.

I think BOMT is practically unlistenable, "I Will Be There" aside which is quite joyous. The rest is the most childish, cheap sounding collection of sickly songs that are just HORRIBLE. It's like it was recorded for a CBeebies show. Hardly the coming of a big star and completely at odds with the singles. Apart from "Sometimes" which although good in its own way, sort of fits the style of the album. It's probably one of the worst things I have ever heard

"Oops" is still a bit shit but just standard pop act shit...and it's never as bad as I remember. Take away the singles (two of which should never have come out) and you've got "Don't Go Knockin," "What U See", "Can't Make You Love Me", "Satisfaction" (yes I love that..), all of which could've been decent-sized hits for her. The gloss and production was just upped x1000 on this and much of the rest is harmless. I still find all the ballads pretty dire though

FANTASTIC record! My favorite pre-mature Brinty album. Plus the era was FLAWLESS. And that TOUR DVD :disco:

Oh and since Britney's 2nd self-titled album is coming soon, I thought bringing this up was essential

A curate's egg for sure, but it was a big improvement over the first two (although the debut is not without its considerably cute charms). This was a 'coming out' era album for me along with Living Proof.

Here we go now...
