Can we get a list of who is a TERF and who is a trans ally? (1 Viewer)

barf

for someone who doesn't care who likes her she's sure been busy heart emoji reacting every single positive comment from these loonies.

I know in my heart that one day, I will be remembered as a brave person, both morally and artistically uncompromising. In the long run, that will be my legacy.

The DELUSION. Roisin, love, about twenty people remember who you are as is.

it's Murphy's law
I'll be forgotten in life
all these sheeple
slept on my name
but just when fame
had disappeared on sight
Joanne's wicked hand
pulled me back again

hilarious how this BRAVE MARTYR believes she lived right through to the end of some GOLDEN PERIOD OF ART AND CULTURE since expired :D

didn't she spend most of that fannying around in a bin bag doing ketamine junkie moves on stage? did she terminate the golden age herself by using AI slop for her last album artwork? many questions.

Donna Summer
She did later claim to be misconstrued though, didn't she - & continued having hits, although with lesser success than her 70s heyday. Obviously she was on a different level of popularity though & in the social media age there's no way for Roisin Terfy to backpedal & claim she never said it.

I'm struggling to think of another artist who torpedoed their own career so spectacularly by lashing out at a segment of their main fanbase.

I am sadly not sure it is so much torpedoed, but simply "taking a different direction".

Like others have alluded, what Roisin will lose from her existing fanbase, she will very likely gain back from the militant Mumsnet / Daily Mail brigade who didn't know who she was before.

You can see from her tweets that it's almost an exact replica of the JK path; the language where she very much sees herself now as some sort of societal renegade heroine. She's totally been corrupted by the TERFs putting her on a pedestal, and treating her as a "voice for the oppressed".

I don't see that groundswell of support lasting though other than a small number of people who might support her work initially as a protest before she's forgotten & they're onto the next.

The whole appeal of Roisin Terfy as an artist was an eccentric outsider type who didn't just make your traditional pop music. How many of the Mumsnet types are going to be buying album after album, going to see gigs, etc like the LGBT community did? She's lasted as long as she has post Moloko because the gays embraced her. Her "new" audience won't show that loyalty.

I don’t think it’s really torpedoed based on what you’d expect of an artist like her at this stage of her career. The most recent album reached #2, having a look at her Insta she seems to have sold out most of her recent shows in Germany (to houses of around 2000) and did a sold out gig in Buenos Aires recently so I think that’s pretty much where you’d expect her to be at in terms of numbers.

Really disappointing takes though, wouldn’t have chosen her to be someone to stand on this hill.

The last album was a success based on preorders though before she said anything wasn't it? I think we need to wait for the next one before we can conclude if she still has the same support. A lot of people might have been willing to give the benefit of the doubt at first but now she's doubled down they can't just chalk it up to a few misguided comments.

I don't think y'all should be looking to her commercial performance to conclude whether 'justice' has been served or not. Let her new 'audience' absorb her and see what they do with her.

I've no doubt she'll get amplified on the socials, but I'm not convinced those supporters will buy into her as an artist. And the full impact of her TERFism on her album/ticket sales won't have been felt yet.

I cant see TERF support for her translating to attending gigs. Album sales maybe... let's wait till she's singing to EMPTY VENUES before we rule on this dears.

This is assuming she's exclusively intent on maintaining a pop career. Presumably there'll now be markets for her to become a generic media personality.

When she played in Leeds last year the TERF thing was very much in the eco-system and I saw a lot of non-gay mutuals posting positively about the gig with no apparent reference to it. I don't think any of them would support her views, but most likely they either weren't really aware or it wasn't a dealbreaker for them.

She won't be getting booked at Hoopla anytime soon, but I don't think she's quite gay-exclusive enough of an artist to completely lose her ability to tour or record over this.

Similarly, I still get loads of requests for Harry Potter rounds from what I would assume to be broadly liberal Gen Z kids at my quizzes.

How well known is JK Rowling’s views among the British public? Harry Potter is still extremely popular with kids here and I don’t think most people I know, even very liberal people, realize she’s a TERF

I don't know how you can avoid it. Every time she BREATHES it's news, especially in Scotland

JK doesn't do interviews with mainstream media though, or does she? Because surely in such a setting she cannot not be asked about her obsessive attempts to dehumanise trans people should she ever sit down on The One Show, Loose Women or Vanessa if it's still going. Even though it's the internet, there is still this under a rock or head in sand aspect to all things internet ruckus, like a playground and not the classroom in terms of behaviour, reporting and consequences.

The UK media paint JK as a women’s rights defender but they never quote her views on trans people directly. I think if they posted her tweets word for word I don’t think many people could say that old chestnut “what has she said that’s transphobic?”

Looking forward to Daily Fail readers’ reaction when they run out to buy her next album of plonky arthouse techno…

What she lost from the last album was replaced by TERFs but she did do a lot of non-refundable pre-orders. As such it balanced out. But how many albums will people buy that they dislike just to support her out of misplaced loyalty.

As a Manic Street Preachers fan, I can tell you the answer is 3.

They probably will just stream the very artsy highbrow BRING IT BACK SHING IT BACK instead, and Madame will live off those royalties and Loose Women appearances.
