Sportswashing is definitely not new and is actively in bed with the populist movement. Even if not directly, they’re regularly funding corrupt governments.
 
Look, let's be honest here, morals are ALL WELL AND GOOD, but when there's money involved, they often go out the window.

It's hardly unique to the sports industry. Corporations and governments launder their reputations through whatever industries currently enjoy public trust or emotional loyalty. Sports, entertainment, luxury, activism, tourism, religion, philanthropy. Basically if it's got STANS people in power will leech off them. And much of the time, people are totally happy to make moral concessions.

I'm not suggesting Beyoncé be hung, drawn, and quartered. She just doesn't get to pretend to be an ally anymore. It’s not like she NEEDED that 20 mil.
