Christmas decorations

Since we got our cats as kittens (they are three now), we haven't bothered with a tree or decorations. But this year we have decided we will at least attempt it. I don't think anything which hangs, trails or dangles is a good idea though, which does limit it somewhat.
 
Seriously though, only TASTEFUL COLOUR COORDINATED BAUBLES AND TRINKETS round Eddie's. None of your chain nonsense.

And coloured lights? GAUCHE!
 
The closest I've come to Christmas decorating since leaving home is drunkenly convincing my friend to drag a dying Xmas tree from the street to his flat in early January.
 
When I was in my 20s and had my own place for the first time, everything was tasteful and colour schemes. Now I kind of want Christmas to be tacky as fuck.
 
I have never been especially tasteful as anyone who has seen my tree can confirm. Although it's kinda less OTT as the years have gone on.

Certainly never co-ordinated.

Agree 100%.

I used to be tasteful but now it’s about getting the gaudiest shit from Paperchase & the Disney Store. Life is too short.

To be fair it is a bit of a faff. Ideally you need to do it (slightly) sloshed with Ella Fitzgerald playing in the background.

We save the tinsel to decorate shelves and picture frames. But again I have withdrawn from it a bit in recent years, especially in the front room.
 
I generally don’t have a tree or decorations because quite frankly I can’t be bothered but this year I’ve already got a tree in a box and decorations taking up valuable space in my flat

My flat has fuck all storage space, so that doesn't help.

I might splash out for some fairylights for the balcony this year. I feel its the least I can do to live my Nigella fantasy.
 
Our tree chocolates growing up would get eaten ON THE SLY by my older sister and I, so by Christmas the tree would be covered in carefully rewrapped tin-foil packages of NOTHING.
 
Chocolates on our tree are a big ask. Firstly very unlikely as @ZenGiraffe said they'd not make it very far. Secondly as you can see our 200+ lights make meltage highly likely.

Her chocolate Christmas cake is delightful btw and I normally hate Christmas cake.
 
We're probably getting more lights this year for the real tree. Never enough :disco:
 
Also my cat is astonishingly well behaved. He just sits underneath it. My old cat would climb up it and pull it down.

Our old ones were fine. We only stopped putting a tree up when we got these as kittens, which was about a fortnight before Christmas, and that felt like a recipe for disaster. Since then it has felt a bit foolhardy to even try.

We do have a tall (about 5ft) thin conical 'tree' made from fixed baubles on a frame (it's nicer than it sounds, honest) that ought to be fine though. Must dig that out the garage at least.
 
I feel like I need to get some new decorations now that I'm in the flat all the time. In particular want to find something I can use to decorate the background of work video calls.
 
I actually quite LIKE a lot of the tat and horribly gaudy colours but just not in my house.

I seen a garden decorated (leaving no gap after their halloween massacre) when driving and groaned so emphatically I almost thought about driving into their garden to destroy it.
 
We always put our decs up the first weekend in December. This year I've bought the most disgustingly amazing rainbow tinsel to go on the tree.
We have candy canes and chocolates on our tree, though I have to keep count of them as one kid always tries to be sneaky and eat them.
 
I have fairy lights up all year round because I am as you know Eastern European and also a former drug addict, so I never feel the need to add anything ON CHRISTMAS :)
