If we do all clap at 8pm, does that mean Boris will still reward the NHS for their hard work by selling them off to the Americans?
 
Delightfully, some local vulnerable residents who have cards entitling them to food parcels have had the cards stolen from them, by scammers pretending to be helpful. Yay.
 
I'm sure clapping out of the window out here on a quiet housing estate wouldn't look silly AT ALL :D

Not sure whether to be encouraged or worried that I've simultaneously been included in work's "key staff" list but also seem to be the only one who's been considered expendable enough to end up on that furlong thing where we don't work for a couple of weeks and just take 80% pay...

This clapping for the NHS thing. I just don't see it working here - it's not like in some European cities in Italy, Spain etc where everyone lives in apartments and has a balcony all facing everyone elses. I live on a street of terraced houses.

I certainly don’t think it will work where I am. Getting the 3 of us to go out and clap in to the wilderness will NOT have the desired effect.

I know you are right, and that it is inevitable but it is all so heartbreaking.
 
We're allegedly using "died OF coronavirus" for our stats where other countries are using "died WITH coronavirus", to make ourselves look less bad.

Looking to be worse than Italy in reality :(
 
Realised today I've been on my own for 10 days now and it's starting to feel more than a little surreal.

Some neighbours were having a spat earlier because one of their cats had escaped into someone else's garden and he wouldn't let them in to check. I was asked to come and referee as I walked past them on my daily amble but politely DECLINED :D

This is true but on the flip side its a bit of a liberty for Rishi Sunak to talk about the self employed like they get away with murder. The uncertainty in income is incredibly stressful, no one pays your sick or holidays etc. Is he going to address that imbalance too when we go back to normal.
 
And also it doesnt cover dividends but dividends are still taxed, so its a bit of a pisstake
 
I've just heard there may be a confirmed case IN MY FUCKING STREET. Someone a few doors up from me has been taken to hospital with breathing difficulties.
I live in a TINY HAMLET IN THE ARSE END OF YORKSHIRE FFS. :o:(
 
Sorry to hear that Wend.

Just heard about a family acquaintance who's been ill for a week and was taken into hospital yesterday. She was moved to a different ICU today so I'm not really sure what to read into that.
 
We ended up having quite a few on my street after all, not every house but a fair amount, there were some horns from what I think were from the shipyards down the road and there have been some fireworks let off. It only lasted a minute or so, but still, it was more than I was expecting. :)
 
Ours was very polite clapping until I popped my head out of the door and gave it a big WOOO and then everyone started cheering. You're welcome NHS.
 
I could hear people cheering and clapping in the distance. A couple of fireworks. My parents joined in enthusiastically. Cringe, but I thought it was quite moving. I feel super grateful for people on the front line of this shit.

Consider them words DEVOURED

Whole street was there at their windows and doorsteps clapping and cheering. Never seen anything like it in my life. (Well, at least not since that day in 2016 when the entire country was out playing Pokemon Go :D)

Yeah ended up joining in, who wouldn't. Felt good man.

But all dividends (other than £2k) are taxed these days, especially once you take over 50k combined (dividend and salary) - you get hit with 32.5%. You do save money if you can work via a limited company but certainly not absolutely massive amounts for most contractors.
