I mean the UK is STILL on the first wave! But there's already documented cases of new spikes in South Korea, Northern China and Singapore, three places where they were successful at containing the virus early on so it's only a matter of time.
 
News narrative already building up against workers for “ignoring” Boris’s plea not to use public transport.

Pretty sure that no-one was gagging to get the Tube to work this morning. If the PM says go to work, the boss says come in and you don’t have another way of getting to work then what choice do you have?

This is unbelievable! I had to take the metro this week, and absolutely everybody was wearing masks. Mind you that it was almost empty (it wasn't early in the morning).
 
Russia cases seem to be going up in massive numbers daily although the death rate still seems relatively low so far. That is probably likely to change over the next couple of weeks. :(
 
Most people don't have masks. You can't just pick 'em up in Tesco. (Yet.) The Tories know this.

I thought the effectiveness of masks was in doubt. I can’t see Boris enforcing wearing them, also he WANTS everyone (under a certain income threshold) to get infected.

My bf's parents believe Russia "already had it last year but no one noticed" so I wouldn't hold out much hope for Russia. The deaths are probably massively under-reported under pain of "falling out of a window", as seems to have happened to a couple of "dissenting" doctors.
 
The strategy of "individual responsibility" is very Tory, so why are we surprised? Not a "winner" with a highly-paid digitally-oriented job? Live far from your place of work, but not enough of a "fighter" to afford a car or an expensive hipster bike? Should have tried harder, I guess.

When the R Number is below 1 it means that for every 100 people who contract the virus will pass it on to fewer than 100 people. Germany’s R Number was below 1 which meant it was ‘safer’ to loosen restrictions. Now the number is back above 1 of it keeps rising they are going to be in the shit again.

On average, every ten people with the infection are currently passing it on to 11 others. (R here = 11/10 = 1.1). It’s an estimate-only - hard to be sure.

Anything above 1 leads to exponential growth. They may need to tighten slightly if it stays above 1.

I see the Mail, Express and other rightwing shit rags are running countless stories about those DANGEROUS AND MILITANT TRADE UNIONS threatening to ruin Boris' lockdown relaxation.

Given that our trade unions are some of the most highly regulated and restricted in Europe (as a result of countless Tory governments), I somehow doubt it. Still how dare they raise concerns about worker's health and safety. :manson:

He's only a matter of weeks away from having fulfilled his purpose for them. IIRC, the deadline for any kind of Brexit extension is the end of June. Which won't happen.
If I was a gambler, I'd put £20 on Boris being gone by the time Parliament reconvenes after the summer recess. He'll step back on health and family grounds and some other poor sod (Raab, Patel, who cares) will carry the can. The Telegraph starting to grumble is part of the strategy. The Barclay Brothers own Johnson's arse, don;t you worry.
 
I think they will keep Johnson around for a bit longer than that. They know perfectly well that any public inquiry will have to conclude the the government contributed to the deaths of thousands through stupidity and arrogance, even if things go perfectly from here onwards. It will be nice to have someone other than Matt Hancock who can lose their job to show how sorry they are about it all, just in time for the next General Election.

The only thing against it is his whopping ego. He clearly loves being Prime Minister but doesn't care a solitary fuck about doing the actual job. He has always been lazy. But he's close to having completed what was wanted of him. The NHS is permanently fucked and the manoeuvering to sell it has already begun. A no-deal Brexit is now all but certain. But his loveable buffoon act is starting to backfire.

To the big money whose interests he is there to protect, he is every bit as dispensable as we are to him.
 
All that matters to the Tories is winning elections, which is something I believe he still capable of. Whether that's still the case in 2024 we'll have to see.
