If there is anything i'm more sick of hearing about over the last few days than THE WAR, it's the concept of COMMON SENSE.
 
I for one am looking forward to sitting in a park with a friend on wednesday to get smashed. It'll be like being fourteen all over again.

I probably won't actually do this. Might wait until Saturday.
 
Went for a walk into town today. Definitely slightly busier than at peak lockdown. Lot more cars especially.

People in England can meet up with friends and family as long as it is outside then?
 
So provisional June 1st for schools but they can’t give a provisional date when I could go see my parents, my sister, brother or nephews.
i suppose I could drive two and a half hours and agree to go on a WALK with one of them then drive all the way back as wouldn’t be able to stay.
That document is sixty pages of waffle. Ireland, France and Belgium had far clearer rules. It would just be nice to have an INKLING of when they think the stages will play out.
 
We have offices in Scotland and England. We're changing NOWT based on Boris's latest round of wiff-waff. Good.

You just can’t measure common sense. I just found out that the fiancé of a “friend” of the family who lives in Berlin has been flying back and forth to London to see her. Oh but it’s OK apparently because you’re allowed to travel to see your partner for 48 hours at a time... never mind the fact that he’s already married and not yet divorced (they had an affair).

There aren’t enough mansons.
 
Also I think it’s common sense that if you can hire a nanny to look after your kids, they should be able to be looked after by their grandparents (if they’re not high risk) but then apparently I’d be wrong!
 
UK death toll has now passed 40,000 according to the latest ONS figures. I really can’t believe we’re easing lockdown restrictions at this point.

Matt Hancock as much as said on the BBC this morning that it was for the economy more than anything, ignoring the issue of non vulnerable grandparents.
 
It’s just so inconsistent between what’s acceptable socially and professionally that it’s just going to lead to rule breaking. At the minute we’re being told a degree of risk is only acceptable if it has an economic benefit. By all means share an office with 30 strangers, but heaven forbid you see both your parents at the same time in the park!
 
The advice for public transport was published this morning and it's essentially a list of stuff your mum told you not to do in public when you were 5, "don't sneeze in other people's faces", "don't grab the handlebar", "try to stay away from strangers", etc. No legislation or attempt to regulate anything. They literally say "try and go to work at off-peak times, your employer MAY agree to this". Totally toothless.
 
Instruction from the DFE saying that I can only have 15 pupils in my class and they need to be 2 metres apart. Now I don’t want to spoiler alert but the size of my classroom is not that of a Viennese ballroom hall, and as such these dimensions do not work. I think I can have 9 max as long as nobody moves. It’s also advising that we don’t need PPE equipment - thanks DFE, but I think I’ll decide that for myself thanks! Anyone who has ever worked with children under ten will tell you that the thing you say most in your school day is “stay in your seat, you don’t just come up to the teacher when you want something. Imagine if we all did that?” x100,000 times a day.

I really think shit is gonna hit the fan in a few weeks if they keep up the pretence that this is workable for primary school age children and continue to ignore the NEU petition that hundreds of thousands have signed.

“Have a chat with your employer - I’m sure they’ll be reasonable fellows” seems to be the government’s response to any challenge people face returning to work.

Because everyone works for a caring and flexible employer of course. :manson:

Whilst I agree with you, total deaths isn't a good measure to be determining lockdown easing or not. Even if all new cases stopped today, it'll still be 40k in three year's time.

But that's exactly it - if they're not "reasonable" about it, it's not the government's problem. All of this has been "should" rather than "must". There's deliberately nothing solid, no outright and enforcable instructions. Blame game.

That said - I was surprised to see Sunak extend the furlough scheme although I assume it gets wound down during the extension....
 
Fixed until August and then 3 more months with the cost shared with the employer.

well, it’s given me an extra month if nothing else.
