I think I might have to start a Coronavirus state of mind thread featuring a POLL. I’m in a permanent, unshakeable state of flat sadness. The weirdly fun novelty factor which was there for a while during the 2020 Bog Roll Famine has LONG GONE

Isn’t it WONDERFUL?
 
I guess those who voted "totally unconcerned" are planning a future of total isolation with no physical contact with friends and family.
 
Do we think we are all going to get a second wave that will put us back in to lockdown (once we actually come out of it)?

According some experts that will happen after the summer, things relax for a few months because hot weather apparently is not good for the virus. Well at least here, I don't know how hot is over there in the summer.

I would say our Summers in Scotland anyway will be similar to your Spring weather with a lot more rain.

Not hot enought then, I'm afraid. This Spring has been raining A LOT here, which is great, I want terrible weather every day in lockdown.

We have had pretty great weather here since lockdown which has been great for me as I have spent a lot of time outside. The past week hasn’t been great and I have felt very down in the dumps.
 
They say the virus will drop over the Summer months but the worlds seasons are different throughout the different time zones and it’s a global pandemic affecting everywhere, so how does that work?

Generally because people naturally social distance more in hotter weather (sit in beer gardens, walk to work etc). That's the theory anyway.
 
But surely while we’ve been in winter the other side of the world has been in Summer and they’ve had the virus just the same?
 
I’m increasingly thinking Sweden had the right idea. It’s been suggested a quarter of London has already had it and the mortality rate is under 1%. It’s not going anywhere so I think we should continue to shield the vulnerable and resume normal life. The lockdown was of course essential to slow the initial exponential growth, but it’s naive to think it will ever disappear, and a vaccine/cure isn’t guaranteed.
 
Also it’s becoming quite clear the Tory party policy is herd immunity by stealth. They’re letting it circulate gradually amongst the working age population at a rate that is manageable by the NHS, the lockdown was only meant to slow the spread not stop it.

I didn't say it was good theory. But it's impossible to prove at this point anyway, because much of spread has been about population density and internal mobility. Only a full year each country would tell us for sure.

Yeah, and that's what I mean, getting the virus is not just your health. Sooner or later I'll be able to visit my parents, I have to travel, and I'm TERRIFIED to get it and infect them. I mean, I'm scared about contracting it myself, but absolutely horrified that I could pass it to someone else, specially my father who is very high risk for several reasons.
 
There are no good options here. For me, returning to some kind of normal is the best of them, with the expectation that we may need to go in and out of lockdown to control outbreaks.

The only alternatives are extended formal lockdown for up to two/three+ years until a cure is found and distributed, or a ridiculous eradication plan I've dreamt up in my head where we all sit at home for 2 months (and by all, I mean no food transport, medical care or electricity)
 
So tomorrow I'm going to walk for over an hour to meet my boyfriend of 5 years who I haven't seen for 6 weeks in a park and sit 2 metres away from him :rolleyes: :)

(I doubt the 2m bit will happen)

I’m rather FED UP of it all now, to the point of having DREAMS about lockdown being over and being able to move to my new house back at uni :D

I still won’t be one of those cunts having 50 person BBQs or meeting up for a ‘socially distanced’ walk with friends though.

This only really works if the lockdown is applied instantly (almost overnight) and strongly, as demonstrated by Corea, Singapore, Taiwan, etc.

The amount of WAIT AND SEE, DITHERING and BUT THE ECONOMY!!!1 cries over here doesn't fill me with any confidence that it can be applied properly and even if it was, that people would take it seriously in any case. You just know that after the third time they call a lockdown people would go: oh not again, but I am doing my hair tomorrow, well I'm not cancelling my barbecue, etc.

Went for a walk in the park and around 30/40 people had gathered for picnics. Googled to find they were the 'UK Freedom Movement' protesting vaccines, 5G and continued lockdown. If they were anything other than white folk (and 100% pure trash at that) you know the 10 police officers wouldn't have just stood there watching.

One young-ish had a sign plastered to her chest, "Antiracists Against Lockdown". I wanted to throttle her. :angry:
 
There was one of those in Glasgow - about 30 white blokes in their 40's and 50's with a couple of reluctant children dragged along. The fuzz pretty much just told them to fuck off and they did.

Protests felt inevitable amongst the gammon (and Jeremy Corbyn's brother, so the BBC seem to be leading with) following similar stuff in the US and elsewhere.

Naturally, i went to their website immediately. UK Freedom Movement have on their splash page that the protests are nothing to do with them.
 
The rise of fashionable and novelty mask designs is great. It's going to get people WANTING to wear one, especially in the cooler months when it's not really t-shirt weather.

Still using a home made red fabric one here but I'd wear the fuck out of a MLP or Trolls mask
