It does feel like we're teetering on the verge again, like it did in February.

That said, I've just signed up for a month at the gym while I'm home, so I'm probably not helping. Are swimming pools open?

There's more in place this time around. We're kinda ready for it. The bar/ school compromise is pretty smart thinking.

The gym is interesting as everyone is being massively diligent, both in terms of wiping things down and social distancing and they basically have a dedicated staff member going around wiping everything down all day too. Which is why it's fucking ridiculous that the pub opened before the gym did.

I went to a different part of town to meet said friends last night and there was fuck all social distancing in the pubs I saw (including a group of about 30 people outside one pub, all with kids playing, one of the Dads so drunk he fell into his child's pram, which was nice), the pub we sat outside of didn't take any details at all, no distancing inside it, the curry house we went to was equally lax. I was quite surprised as the only places I've been have been really quite hot on it...

I've yet to go out in Belfast, bar to the cinema, but it'll be interesting to see how much more lax things are here compared to when I was in the Republic last week. The difference in people using face masks alone was quite stark.

I went out with four friends last night, each from different households, and every single one of them was AMAZED what we were doing was actually still not allowed.
I think about a month ago the rules on meeting up with other people just hit a level where they were too confusing to understand, and after that most people have just given up on trying to comply with them.

I agree, unless something goes seriously seriously wrong it can't be as bad as last time; we have much more awarness of how it spreads, and most people with office-based jobs will keep working from home.

Yes there will be pockets of local flare-ups, and some social groups/demographics that comply better than others (with knock-on consequences). The critical thing is that the NHS doesn't get overwhelmed like last time.

Indeed. It’s ridiculous- albeit that I’m aware I’ve broken them.

Aware and I'm guessing also not that bothered? Zero judgement here btw, when the rules made sense you could understand why you had to comply and I think would feel guilty if you didn't, but now it's so arbitrary how can you feel too bad about something that doesn't feel at all wrong compared to what else is allowed?

Here in Greece it’s all pretty lax but then they were never really hit hard in the first place, and I’d presume most of the cases here were centred around Athens. We were at a TAVERNA last night and there was no social distancing at all, no one was wearing masks and lots of people were DANCING.

The rules are a fucking shambles. I'm just sensible. I have about three bubbles, I'm sensible when out in public and only meet others outside. No one has been in our house.

That being said I know several people who this has broken. Too scared to do anything. It's frustrating and sad.

This is the last full week of the Scottish school holidays and I am nervous about my son going back to school. I know it is very unlikely to affect kids his age, but it is still a worry.

It’s Pride week here and while it was supposed to be mostly a digital event, there were a couple of (rave) parties that were packed.

I’m spending my vacation in isolation with my sick mother and old dad, so I’m naturally not going anywhere, but even if I weren’t I don’t think I’d go to packed parties now. It feels like some people just don’t care anymore.

My outlook changed when I went back to work and basically realised that social distancing in schools just won’t work, and that was with only a small percentage of the school cohort in. From September I’m going to have to be in a room all day with 31 children and no PPE, so whilst I will obviously try and do everything I can to minimise risk, I’m sort of at a crossroads with my mental health in how I decide to handle the situation. If I allow myself to get really in my head about it then I won’t be able to do my job. The government showed between March-July that they are a shambles, there is no strong leadership and we are essentially on our own. So I am thankful at least that my school has done everything it can to mitigate risk, but it can’t eliminate the risk and I just have to accept that and carry on.

Me too, I'm actually surprised by how many. The odd thing is that there seems to be a political spin to it, with the general consensus seeming to be "well you can't trust a thing Boris says so when he says it's safe to go out he's obviously lying, so I'm not going to leave the house".

I have a friend whose partner seems to have taken it quite badly. They went to a shopping centre when they first opened and he insisted they both quarantine for 2 weeks after JUST IN CASE. His social media feeds have also turned into a DAILY COVID TRACKER.

It's a bit of an odd one. I KNOW it's not right, but literally EVERYONE here is giving zero fucks and also we have one of the lowest rates in the country.

I was 100% compliant with the main part of lockdown and have been pretty good since, but the "household bubble" thing just feels like it's a bit, well, WISHY WASHY. I totally get that that isn't the way I should be, but with the exception of one or two misdemeanors, I'm generally still complying.

I have a friend who hasn't left the house since March and refuses to until next year at the earliest.

I respect the opinion but he's already about 25 stone and won't even take his cat for flea treatment (the thing is riddled). Something is going to kill him, and it's not corona.

Every single time I've been somewhere where there are other people I am nervous about every cough, throat-itch or hot flush episode for about five days afterwards. Until the last few months I hadn't suffered periods of prolonged anxiety about anything, even in the darkest times of my life. I consider myself a very strong woman but I've become accustomed to having a knotted-up stomach and feeling slightly on the verge of hysteria. I can understand the utter terror that some people are feeling because sometimes I only feel one step away from it and I can't judge them for that. It's an awful way to feel.

There's no excuse for the poor cat's situation. Pets at Home deliver or he could get flea medication and collars on supermarket grocery deliveries. There are other problems going on here than him just being scared to leave the house.

My work kindly phoned me under the guise of “concern” to let me know if I go to Portugal on Wednesday and get stranded it will be unpaid leave. More concerned I’ll not be available to work from home than my finances more like.

This is the thing. I don't mind smart ideas like "let's shut the pubs to give kids an education" (I have been back to the pub briefly and got it out of my system and found that none of the old pub pals are dead; I can now accept that in all likelihood pubs are over and just wanted to see one last time). But the government and media alike have a lot to answer for when it comes to getting everyone scared of their own shadow. If there was clear reporting of figures and calm, clear, sensible instructions perhaps we could still get through this but without ravaging the population with a mental health crisis. "Keep calm and wear a mask" could have been a good campaign.

in other news my test from Weds is negative.

I live in Hackney and it's just RAVES RAVES RAVES everywhere at the moment. The local police have the helicopter out almost EVERY SINGLE NIGHT until about 3am :bruised::eyes:

Hackney Marshes and various Walthamstow forest-y locations have basically turned into BERGHAIN!

I’ve just seen how cheap air travel is at the minute :disco:

A nice weekend away somewhere come October is on the cards

Who here is from Brighton? It was Lride this weekend wasn't it? Obviously it don't go ahead officially but curious what it was like? Did a lot of people still turn up?

I'm not but it looks like nothing of note happened.

It’s the same in Vincennes just near Paris. Except they go on until about 10 am :eyes:
