So most of the country basically in tier 3, which I think is for the best given the free for all permitted at Christmas.

Pretty much yeah. Including nightclubs. And we can meet up to 6 people inside and outside.

I mean by January 1st we will be in tier 3 but at least we have a month of fun.
 
So London is one of the only areas where the infection rates are going UP, yet it only goes into tier 2. Places where the infection rates have been dropping are bunged into tier 3...

A lot of the independent pubs and cafes I work with aren’t going to survive the Winter; they were counting on being able to trade again come December.

As long as our shitcunt cumstain government can still go to the commons bar, eh?

Cumbria actually in tier 2. In a way that's good, as it means the whole fucking country not flocking here. But also bad news for the pubs :(

Thank you. But actually I'm genuinely gutted for everyone that can't :(

And it does mean my 2 brothers and their families can't come and visit for Christmas because they're in tier 2.

I read cases were either coming down or were stable in most London Boroughs?

I read something a while ago that suggested that when the original lockdown was lifted unilaterally across the country Manchester and Liverpool were still much earlier along the curve than London, so things reopened while plenty of people still had it and then it kept spreading. I don't have a source for that though, and cba searching, so PINCH OF SALT.

And I read in the Manchester Evening News that cases in Manchester were actually in decline the last few weeks while cases shot up everywhere else.
 
So tier 2 you can go to a pub and order alcohol if you order a substantial meal. What counts as substantial? A bowl of chips or a full roast?

We've been in tier two style restrictions for months, which haven't really worked anywhere. Since moving into tier three a week before lockdown, the Manchester city council area has more than cut its case numbers in half. We could probably be in tier two, but it seems like we're getting lumped in with Greater Manchester as a whole, which has also reduced its numbers but from a much higher starting point.
 
Yeah the problem with tier 2 is most people ignore the household rule anyway in pubs/restaurants, and it’s not in the pubs/restaurants interests to enforce it.
 
But our local is wet led :(

Hoping we can support them with takeaways. Don't want to see it shut down and not all that keen on foody pubs, trying to have a pint when everyone is sat eating and waiters are dashing back and forth.

Will pubs have to start enforcing it? Is it even possible without taking ID and proof of address with you?

It’s not really worth the hassle or loss of income for them I think. I went out a few times when London was in Tier 2 and no where gave a shit.
 
We’ve been following the numbers for Liverpool closely because of the pilot scheme we’ve been doing and the mass testing has made a massive difference. We’ve gone from 600 per 100k in early November, the highest, to around 150, one of the lowest in the country. This when many areas are still rising. Some parts of the region including the Wirral are actually low enough to be tier 1 but the region goes in as one tier so we’ll be tier 2, lower than pretty much every major city outside London. It’s a huge change.
 
This has really got to me today, actually. December was supposed to be a light at the end of the tunnel and yet it’s just a load more restrictions. This area is mostly rural yet because of Birmingham and Coventry (which are both MILES away) we’ve been forced into tier 3 as well. Dunno, it just feels so BLEAK.

They have been coming down the past couple of weeks. Usually about 30% decrease in each update for 7 day rolling period

Fuck only knows.

Will be interesting to see how this works with pubs that have ordering apps. Will the app not let you order drinks only? Will it have clearly defined "substantial meals" on the menu? Will pubs just turn them off and do table service only?
 
Do we think people in tier 2 would go to places in tier 1 so they can go to pubs and meet up inside in groups or would that not be allowed?

For example, Mandy's family live in Southampton. They can't meet inside. But they can get on the hovercraft and come to the island and meet up in a pub?

I think there’ll be some of going on but not much as the Tier 1 areas are pretty remote and border tier 2 areas anyway.
 
With the mass testing rolling out to every tier 3 area, there was no way Liverpool wouldn’t be tier 2 after they’ve been the pilot for mass testing. If they remained in tier 3 everyone would question why bother with ineffective mass testing

I just noticed this in the rules: "if you live in a tier 2 area, you must continue to follow tier 2 rules when you travel to a tier 1 area."

So technically NOT ALLOWED but if and how they would check, fuck knows.

So my brother's in tier 2 can come visit us in tier 1 but can't set foot inside our house? Excellent.
