I think it's basically a fact that the 'North-South Divide' is something that Southerners couldn't give a shit about and certainly don't feel negativity to people in the North, but the opposite cannot be said. I find it sad that we can't all just wish the best for each other.

I 100% agree with that. But many Northerners then misplace their wrath onto the people of the South-East and London, like it's our fault. (I mean, I guess at least you can blame the South-East partially as they consistently vote the cunts back into office, but London less so)

It's entirely possible it's just what you're looking out for - if you're specifically looking out for it, you might not see it.

Either way, it's all childish shit. I enjoy a bit of regional bants just for larks but this is fucking bullshit.

We do get the worst of both worlds. But then, it's not like anyone's bothered to start a North of England political party, so y'know, you reap what you sow.
 
The Tier 4 guidance is so poorly worded. What does the last sentence mean. You can stay overnight with your support bubble or you can’t?

Staying away from home overnight
You cannot leave home for holidays or stays overnight away from your main home unless permitted by law. This means that holidays in the UK and abroad are not allowed. This includes staying in a second home or caravan, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with.

It’s so poorly worded but yes, you can stay with someone if you’re in an existing support bubble. But saying you can’t stay in a second/holiday home at all, taking away the support bubble from the sentence it’s saying that you can only stay with “people you live with”, which just means staying home, so why bother saying it?

I think what really pisses me off with the Clown In Chief is it always ends up the same way and if only he'd just face the truth and be OPEN about it, it'd be better for everyone. They'd know where they stand and that yes it's shit until probably mid next year and that Christmas is essentially cancelled and would be able to get used to it and plan around it. But every time he drags his feet and says it's going to be the opposite, and then at the last second does a handbrake u-turn. Every. Single. Time. For Every. Single. Decision. Always the last second u-turn to what was probably privately planned from the outset.

In terms of what's allowed, just be sensible and cautious - none of it is enforced anyway and they know full well it's too complicated for anyone to follow

My parents have cancelled Xmas for everyone in my family :D I would have been travelling from Scotland but they also don’t want my sisters and their respective families going round too. My dad has been getting more and more anxious the closer Xmas was getting that it wasn’t a good idea and turns out he’s terrified (quite rightly) of long Covid. I think he felt he had to have Xmas for the rest of us and these new rules have let him push back on that slightly and say it’s not happening.

I’m actually really proud that they’ve not just gone “fuck the rules”.
 
I must say, I do find contrasting the uproar over restricting people's movements for a few days (when frankly one can quite easily listen to Mariah Carey whether with family or not) vs. driving the country's economy off a cliff with a No-Deal Brexit, and actually stripping them of long-term rights to REAL freedom of movement... and wonder how people can be so short-sighted and emotional.

Husband is still in self isolation after being identified as a close contact and missing the last week of school (bastard).

I’ve been running around doing everything - spent £250 in Aldi yesterday (yes, bloody Aldi! How is that even possible?!) and now his parents are only coming for one day. At least we’ve got that I suppose.

And I’ve somehow got to get my head around rolling out a mass testing programme at school from 5th Jan.

Think I’m just gonna watch drag race and eat snacks for 2 weeks.

Thankfully no. It's just the thought of it, although I think I'll be called for the vaccine soon anyway (I've decided to go for it).
I did the shop 7:30am yesterday too! So we've a load of snacks now to eat aswell :D

I do think you teachers are unsung heros, you don't get enough credit for all you have to do. I wish you were up for the vaccine early too.

Hancock on Andrew Marr this morning, basically slagging off any teacher who isn't prepared to work through the Christmas break to implement the government's poorly-conceived, last minute rush job of a testing plan. Anyone in his constituency who voted for him in December is, without exception, an absolute fucking cunt.

I think I would find it bearable if I really did think a light was at the end of the tunnel in March or so but I don’t trust this Government to roll out the vaccine efficiently. I don’t think anyone does.
 
Two of my colleagues had their first vaccinations at the end of last week. I haven't heard anything yet but will ask next week if I don't before I finish on Christmas Eve.
 
This is really awful. I am so sorry to all Moopers, and your family and friends that will be forced to spend this Christmas alone. I would genuinely welcome you all here if things were different. :(

My gp friend had hers on Friday. She did say it was a bit disorganised though in that admin (non patient facing) staff got the vaccine, then later in the day they had frontline hospital doctors turn up for it and they'd run out
 
From what I know from work, I think they’re actually getting through all the vaccines given to them but then are having to wait a few days for the government to provide more. Not sure whether this is expected but I presume work will want to be rolling it out quicker than the government are allowing them to.

That was certainly also the case here.

It's a bit odd for me because I don't work FOR the NHS, but I am in an NHS setting and I am patient facing. So I don't think either of the surgeries I work at will be obliged to offer it, but I assume (like my colleagues) that they will want everyone who works there covered.
 
Hopefully when the Oxford vaccine gets rolled out (looking to be possibly next week) as it’s easier to store then progress should speed up.
 
What an absolute calamity.

I wonder if this will finally start to impact on Johnson as an individual. It doesn't matter how they try and spin it, this is 100% on him. In 3 days he went from berating Starmer in the Commons for wanting to cancel Christmas, then three days later he does exactly that. Never has his incompetence as an individual been laid out so clearly. There's no-one left to throw under the bus, especially now we know how long information about the new strain has been known. I don't think he has the same cult-like following as Trump; he was always a means to an end.

I said a while ago that I reckoned he'd be gone by Easter, once the no deal Brexit was through and he'd served his purpose. I wish I'd put a fiver on it.
