It's ok everyone calm down we will build back better and turbo charge the economy after we get our oven proof vaccines done with an Australian style points system.
 
Some of you might know Melbourne was in the longest/one of the strictest lockdowns in the world last year, with an 8pm-5am curfew, only 4 reasons to leave the house and a 5km limit on how far people could move from their homes.

It worked, as after months of that we were able to eventually rid ourselves of covid completely, but every mental health advancement I had personally made over the last decade was completely decimated. State borders were also shut to Victorians and my entire family is in Queensland (which has been a corona-free paradise for 99% of the pandemic), and that really affected me as I never thought I'd be separated from my family within my own country, particularly if something bad were to happen to someone (something like attending a funeral wasn't considered a valid reason to cross state borders)

Anyway, there's been another outbreak and we're back in the same lockdown conditions, and I'm a TAD mentally shaken by it. It's only for 7 days so far, but a short lockdown is how it started last year, too. The vaccine rollout is painfully slow, as well - I read today that at our current pace, the adult population of Australia won't be fully vaccinated until September 2022 :)

There's not really a point to this post, but I haven't talked about the pandemic on here at all since I started posting again and I just wanted to vent a little bit - while being FULLY aware that I'm so incredibly lucky to have been in Australia during all of this, btw. I would obviously rather be in a long lockdown than have covid or have a loved one get it, and I wouldn't trade our situation for any other country in the world. But it has still been a bit tough and may get tough again very soon

PS I wasn't posting last year through all that but I was reading and you all entertained me a great deal so thank you :love:

I spoke to a paramedic today (long story). He was so blasé about covid at the moment it's funny.

"It's totally over mate. No cases in the hospital for months. It's done, it's finished"

@gggggg and @Indie are right. Don't believe the hype. Just look at Chile - one of the world's most vaccinated countries and yet their rates are shooting up (and yes I know they're using the Chinese vaccine which is not as good as Pfizer/AZ/Moderna but no vaccine 100% effective). Vaccines alone are not sufficient. Removing all legal limits on social distancing as of 21 June is questionable.
 
Yeah it won’t be the worst thing in the world anyway, most of us can still do mostly EVERYTHING the way things are.
 
Releasing absolutely everything on 21 June always felt mega quick to me. They really should start making cautious noises rather than all politicians saying "there's nothing in the data to say we shouldn't do it", otherwise we may be heading right back to the disappointment of six months ago when Boris cancelled Christmas at the last minute.

We've had one of those test concerts last night in Paris. 5000 people got tested before the concert and will be tested again over the next 7 days.
 
I'm in a weird mood today - the sun is shining and it's been lovely yet because I haven't left my garden to meet anyone I have this voice in my head telling me that I've missed out and I should be with other people. This is in spite of the fact that I've been with friends for three evenings in a row.

I've put this in the COVID thread because I was thinking of how, in spite of everything, lockdown was good for mental health in that regard. I was content with staying at home and not being active socially without the added weight of comparing myself to other people and their social lives and getting down on it, because everyone was in the same boat last year. Nobody was seeing anyone or doing anything, so there was no need to compare myself to others. Does anyone else feel this way?

It taught me that as much as I like to be around people and think I'm a quiet extravert in that sense, a lot of it is down to other people and what they think of me, rather than a real need to be with people all the time. I thought lockdown had helped me with this but the same feeling is creeping back now that things are easing. Instagram stories and the like don't help!
 
I actually felt the same in a way, there was no pressure to constantly see family because we weren't allowed to! When the first load of restrictions were lifted it was Dannii's birthday so I felt we had to have a garden party. But it was really stressful.
 
I high-tailed it out of the UK this evening to avoid the (alleged) quarantine that France will impose on UK arrivals, as of tomorrow. I'm not sure to what extent it will be enforced, but imagine it will be far more lax than the UK one.

In any case, I am determined to be grateful for having had two weeks to see my family and friends in the UK who I have not been able to see for 15+ months. If there will be another wave, it will have made it more bearable. I suppose COVID has taught us a lot about gratefulness.
