Sniffled and sneezed a bit (as well as the "feeling down, depressed and hopeless" if you count ZOE symptom tracker options), and not gonna lie, I was tempted not to self test. Because of the hope that it's finally a mild variant (in which case it'd do us good maybe?) and not wanting to spend the rest of the year isolating. There must be so many others like this.

However, I bit the bullet and did a test. Negative.
 
They’ve taken nightclubs away here for now, that’s how far they’ve gone so far. But surely that shouldn’t last.

it was rumoured on Friday but I only found out about it Saturday when I was out in the city. it was weird. the general mood from what I could tell (in a bar full of locals and a few tourists too) was: again?! like, people were laughing about it in a resigned way and most were in a good mood nonetheless. but the winter is really tough in this country and I think it will wear people down if they extend beyond mid-January.

as for following it though, what choice is there? all shops, retail and bars are shut. it's masks indoors and on transport, and (98% of) people are following that.

the UK has no choice but to go into lockdown again for at least a month. if they wait, the lockdown will only be longer and harder when it does come. everything needs to close. and when things do reopen, vaccine passports for retail/hospitality access should be mandated (although the libertarian arsehole Tories on the party's right will be six feet under before they pass that). people have to fucking SUCK IT UP.

Interesting. I read that people couldn’t mix more than 3 households? Or maybe I misread. It’s that part that’s much harder to enforce

oh, it's max 4 guests Christmas/NYE and 2 guests in your home at all other times, and NOBODY will observe THAT :D and nobody will enforce it either, police don't give a shit.

The only people who observe it are nosy neighbours! We were called on last year for having a party even though it was 6 people including my mum having a birthday buffet for my sister and we were all in a bubble.

The number of hospitalisations is going down and it's pleasing to see 33k first doses being given, so hopefully some people have come around and that's not just kids.

No I’m giving it a couple months. I was terrible after my first vaccine and I’m worried the antibody levels will tip me over. I spoke to some friends in Europe who said it’s still not advisable there (or in the case of Greece, illegal), so I’m going to hold out a little longer.
 
I've come down with my first cold (most most most likely just a cold) in years on Thursday last week and kept to myself since. Super irritating and will do a PCR test tomorrow to make sure as I wanted to drive up to my parents on Thursday.

Had two negative lateral flows on Saturday morning and this morning - plus didn't mix with people since 12 December - and even before, only in highly controlled surroundings for work - but what an absolute hassle. Urgh.

Oh really? Hmm I was pretty bad after the first one too. I wonder if I should rebook. I only did it because I have to return to school on the fourth

I don’t advise other people not doing it. Something was just off with me on my first jab (fucking AZ!) and I read up more about antibodies and how they can fuck you up (in rare cases but still). That said I was fine after my 2nd.

I also read more about t-cells and immune response you get from having the real thing vs vaccines. I get the need to convince everyone to do a booster as fast as possible because it’s the mass effect. I’ll just be slightly behind hoping my T-cells are enough for now.
 
Having had covid a few weeks ago I'm waiting for the jab. I'm fairly confident I'll have some immunity for a bit.
 
I was just re-reading the first 20 or 30 pages of this thread. It's like another universe. Dark jokes ahoy, of course but also predicted fatalities figures of 2-300. :(

I think you should do it. You're in a similar position to me whereby you have to balance the risk of a side effect of the vaccine after covid (which various bodies in the UK have said is OK) Vs the risk of exposure at work. I think there's no right or wrong answer though.
 
I went to a party Saturday night and multiple people have now tested positive for COVID :(

I signed up for a rapid test and pcr test for the morning
 
Was watching local news now and some health authority person was saying monoclonal antibodies treatment is not working with omicron, and it's best to use what stock they have of it in all the remaining delta cases that come up. I've never heard about it before but upon searching I've found this article.

I don't know what that means but the bit about Omicron being reverse-zoonosis (human to animal to human infection which causes the mutation) jumped out at me. Like something out of an apocalypse movie. :what:
