Boris won;t be in charge to change it. He has FUCKED this and if he locks down, the insurance industry who bankrolled his Leave campaign and have "donated" millions to his office (and his wallet, of course) will turn on him. Once that dark money gets moving, he's a goner.

I was just in a wee Tesco. Their hours have changed from 6am-11pm to 10am-6pm. They have signs up at the till asking customers not to shout or be rude to the staff. :(

I am legit worried about those reliant on food banks.

And even apart from those who rely on food banks, I reckon there are loads more where the kids get their free school dinner (or even a paid one) and little more than super noodles at home.

I've just made a cash donation to the Trussell Trust but yes you have to wonder where they're going to get the actual stuff from.

I've had a number of emails the last few days advising of food banks here already closing, reducing hours etc, and contingency referral processes.

Another thing is that I imagine a majority of the referral routes will be closed in the first place.

In lighter news I’ve had two heavily forwarded whatsapp messages claiming Prince Phillip DEAD as a result of covid-19

They're saying skeleton staff will keep schools open for those who need to work or who are vulnerable in any way - like those needing food

The scaremongering is really fucking me off. People speculating it will go on for 18 months as well. FUCK. OFF.
If people aren't scared they won't take any precautions and they'll all still be down the fucking pub. It's necessary.

I'm not talking about people saying how deadly the virus is. FINE. It's ignorant fuckers speculating about how it's going to be dealt with when they DON'T KNOW.

Along with schoolkids and food bank users I am worried about people with fragile mental health for whom the prospect of months and months of isolation (enforced by the ARMY!) could tip them over the edge.

They will go on predicted grades. That's IF they have a university intake, if they're back to normal by then. Unless they decide to do it all online. If they can manage that then they could really do most courses by distance learning. The Open University have managed for years successfully, and having studied with them, their course material is among the best.

There will be a huge uproar from teachers if they go on predicted grades. It will be mass fraud across the whole country, schools inflating because they have to. I think you're misunderstanding the pressure that schools are under to produce results...

These results are on people's CVs for the rest of their lives. If this cohort gets results higher than the year before them and the year after them, then they suddenly have a huge advantage over everyone else in every job they ever apply for, the rest of their lives.

The way he dropped the cancellation of exams in as an aside as if that isn't what kids have been working hard for, for the last 2 years (or more) was disgraceful. As always, a complete lack of empathy and no plan whatsoever regarding the fallout. How are we supposed to motivate our Year 11 and 13 kids now? They need to know what they're going to be doing - whether it's later exams or something else RIGHT NOW.

I mean, they literally aren't.
They are in part. Obviously application is part, but FROM MY EXPERIENCE as someone with a bad memory that's what the process was - a test of my memory and memory techniques. I learnt the most pointless acronyms, visual reminders and other nonsense just to get through. I learned nothing!

But I accept coursework is a far more a successful test of my abilities, so I am biased.

Several people I've spoken to are suffering from very high anxiety levels.

I had to take advantage of the mental health support in work today. I'm OK, it just bubbled over for a minute or two and I stopped making sense.

All the pubs around my way are open. None of them looked busy but they all had people in them. I mean, what the fuck?

Behind doctors and nurses, supermarket workers are probably the most exhausted and the most exposed to the infection :(

Of course there is some need to memorise certain elements - but that's true in every job anyone does too. You can't refer to a handbook every time you're treating a patient as a paramedic, you can't as a teacher when a student asks you a question on the spot, you can't in any field really. To be an expert in a field, you really should have some facts to memory.

IN MY EXPERIENCE, as a teacher for 10 years, the vast majority of students can pass all the 'memory' parts easily (if they bother to learnt them). It's the application that they struggle with if they are not particularly adept in a subject.

That is even more true now, as the GCSEs have added a huge amount more application than basic recall with the new GCSE specifications in 2017-18.

My appetite seems to be coming back. DAMN IT

I'm about to leave the flat for the first time since Sunday to post my Mother's Day card (which I have not licked). Let's see how DEAD or otherwise it is.

Anyway, whatever you think of exams on a bigger scale, Year 11 and 13 students had been preparing mentally for these for years - and they deserve to sit them somehow. I am absolutely gutted for them as I know how much they mean to them. For many students it is all they have thought about for a long long time.

And how do universities cope when all schools suggest that students made their 'predicted' grades? They usually get away with allocating more places than they can actually accept because some students don't make the grade in August. They'll be oversubscribed on many courses now.

I will be so FUCKED OFF if he dies when I'm not in work anyway. It would do much more for public morale if he could wait until we're all back to work as normal and then give us the extra day off as a treat.

Ryanair stops flying next Tuesday.

My sister got an email today to say her flight from Gran Canaria on Saturday has been cancelled . She has had to book a flight to Manchester, to then find a way back home from there.

Has anyone used Zoom as a videoconferencing way of staying in touch with people? I was going to set my parents up with Skype but all the cool kids seem to be on Zoom these days.

I have seen a lot of talk about Zoom the last few days. Apart from kicking you out after 40 minutes, it's supposed to be OK.
