Anyone else just get a text message from the Government?

Two groups of people with suitcases at the train station.
About 20 people so far turning up at our doors and asking to speak to someone.
What part of this are these thick fucks not getting?

Yes. I knew from the news that the government were trying to get out a mass text message. I expect the phone networks are taking it in turns, and EE is first.

Oh God, same. Although mine just clicks incessantly and I think I need to clean some kind of vent. Just not very good with that kind of stuff :(
 
My flat mate just shared her first communication with her nightmare mother in 2 years and it was passive aggressive and quite nasty as ever. At the same time I get a beautiful text from my mum and that’s now set me off in a flood of tears :(
 
Bit of advice required. I had a hotel room pre-booked for Rotterdam before this shit went down. It was non-refundable but I messaged them and requested that, given the situation, they give me a full refund.

They came back with a fairly flimsy offer to re-arrange my booking for next year, subject to various fees (bastards). Now, if that's all I can get out of them it's not the end of the world, assuming Eurovision 2021 does go ahead in Rotterdam, but I'd rather just get the refund.

Given travel might actually be suspended in May, would I have more recourse to a refund then? Do people reckon I'm better to hold off for a few weeks and push back, or try to kick off now?

Did you book with expedia or booking.com? They are both currently giving refunds no questions asked on all bookings including non-refundable ones in April - it might be worth waiting till nearer the time.

Expedia I know are currently working on a week-by-week basis due to the volume of people trying to get in touch.
 
Booking.com but I couldn't see an obvious answer there when I last checked so I reached out to the hotel chain directly.

Thanks, I'll maybe hang fire for another week or two and see where we are with it.
 
Can always ask for a chargeback on your credit card. Recently a friend of mine even got a refund on a concert ticket for a show he attended but the content just wasn’t as advertised when he bought the ticket!

Still needs to contact the merchant, or try to, first before requesting a chargeback. I’d say waiting closer to the time is a best course of action as travel restrictions may be in place by then.

They (booking.com) should get in touch with you nearer the time offering a refund. It wouldn’t hurt to hunt around the website though and send an email to customer service, they will probably action it now if you go through booking.com.

I imagine the hotel themselves would be reluctant to give a refund due to sheer amount of business they will be losing :(

In related news, flights I have with Ryanair and EasyJet for next week STILL haven’t been cancelled even through they clearly won’t be going ahead :D They are both obviously trying to encourage people to change to flights later in the year than give out refunds.
 
I cancelled a room with booking.com that WAS refundable 11 days ago and have yet to receive my refund.
 
If you can’t get a full refund now from hotel or website, you would be in a stronger legal position to demand one if the hotel was prohibited by law from letting you stay.

Maybe ask a Dutch friend to keep you up to date with local lockdown rules, and once restrictions get extended into May then Bob’s your uncle?

(This strategy doesn’t work if you’ve already agreed a partial refund/rescheduling).

Because of course he isn't. We've known he was a cunt for ages, now we need to make him feel it when the pubs reopen. We really do need to remember who the cunts and queens were in all this.
 
I know we're so deep into this and nothing is a shock anymore but its now postponed the Olympics for a year. Just step back and put that into context for a moment.
 
This is the fourth time in history the Summer Olympics have been cancelled/postponed. The previous three were during World Wars.
 
OMG new restrictions here in the wild wild north: restaurants and bars are now only allowed to serve food at the tables. No serving over the counter.

No restriction on takeaway and buffet restaurants. :disco:
