Did the UK reported cases really double today in the UK? Apparently we went up 8681 today compared to 4344 yesterday. :confused:
 
Nearly 9k new cases in the UK yesterday is not good news. These people would have been infected whilst we are in lockdown.

I was just looking at this and thought it was possibly a misprint as things should be going down because of lockdown.

I assumed as we have been in lockdown for almost 3 weeks the numbers would be going down.
 
I think it’s spreading through the people who can’t lock down, healthcare workers, bus drivers, supermarket staff.
 
And down to only 15 countries without a case.

It's just a change in methodology.

Public Health England:

"Today’s figures for positive tests have been adjusted to include positive case results from swab testing for key workers and their households (pillar 2). These will be included in the daily figures from today, 10 April. If these results were excluded from the figures, as they have been previously, the daily increase in the number of people who tested positive would have been 5,195."

I'm not sure these are cases who were infected whilst we were in lockdown. We're testing more people and presumably that will include people who have had the virus for a week or more.
 
Some numbers:

UK has so far 73,758 cases, 135 of them recovered. Not many. But Spain, who hopefully had its peak already, has 157,053 confirmed cases, with 55,668 of them recovered; which franlky, brings some hope for countries behind us, like UK.

What about China? 81,907 cases, with 77,455 of them recovered. And hardly anyone dying or getting infected there anymore, the epicentre of the pandemia and with zillions of people living there.

My question is: IS CHINA MAKING A MOCKERY OF THIS? Or what?

The UK figures must be fudged. We can’t have that many cases with only 135 recovered.

Yes you are right, but the country is still pretty much at a standstill otherwise. What we don’t really know is how many people are still nipping round to family/friends houses.

This is what the officials were saying yesterday:

"The UK coronavirus death toll is expected to continue to rise for at least two weeks, the government’s chief scientific adviser has said, despite encouraging signs about the rate of infections and hospital admissions.

"Despite the slightly lower figure, Vallance said the peak of the outbreak could still be weeks away. 'I would expect the deaths to continue to keep going up for about two weeks after the intensive care picture improves. We’re not there yet, but that’s the sort of timeframe I would expect.'"

I think they stopped reporting recovered cases pretty quickly, I know other countries like the Netherlands and Norway don’t report recovered cases either.
 
I wonder if all that lot who put their Christmas decs back up have torn them down again? Unless they want to be celebrating Christmas indefinitely.

If we are almost hitting 1k a day already, then the 20k at best figure is seeming very realistic now.
