I had a zoom with 6 old school friends tonight. At least 5 of them will be somehow be breaking the rules over Christmas (and the last one I didn't get to hear from before I left the chat).

I'm just so depressed ANYWAY about EVERYTHING, and then that just makes it worse. I wonder if I'm being stupid for being depressed, am I taking it too seriously, or am I missing out by not being nonchalant enough. (One of the friends literally said he was going to his mum's and didn't get why the question was being asked because he had no idea of Saturdays announcement)

There's also a family friend who's a policeman who's going to his mum's for Christmas because "the police won't be around checking". I genuinely don't know if that's genuine inside information or just stupitidy, but either way I absolutely hate it. I hate it ALL right now.

Even though they might be having more fun than you, and they probably won’t face any consequences personally, what you’re doing is still the right thing and better for the world as a whole.

Yes everyone can probably break “the rules” and get away with it, but that’s not the point! It’s literally about avoiding spreading a deadly disease. There is so much focus on getting caught or not, when that is hardly what matters
 
I'm meeting up with a friend of mine tomorrow afternoon, and I was surprised when she initially invited me to hers for dinner :o We're going to meet in a local shopping centre instead, and I'm only taking off my mask once we're seated if we decide to have a cup of tea etc.

I'm definitely enjoying having the moral high ground, and I'll take that as a victory. It's just very disappointing hearing people you know and respect so well being so... Well disrespectful to be honest.

Moopy seem so much more on the ball than most people I know in real life :D

(Also loved my friend today describing how she was livid she caught covid because she's HARDLY BEEN OUT and her boyfriend's HARDLY BEEN OUT except to MOTORCYCLE CLUB ONCE A WEEK. Okay hun :eyes:)

My favourite has been my manager at work barely ever wearing a mask, while the rest of us have them on at our DESKS all day as per the guidelines - but he pops it on if he knows his boss is due to come in :eyes:
 
My boss is all about “personal responsibility” (aka a Republican) and she wears her mask on and off and thus doesn’t enforce our mask policy

the moral high ground is always nice!
 
The more I think about how my workplace has operated throughout this, the more annoyed I get - not sure I've actually RANTED about it on here yet :D

Basically there are six of us (now five - a part-time member of staff just retired when we finished on Friday) and although the university encouraged staff to work from home wherever possible our supervisor made us go in pretty much full time. The department does need someone on site, but a lot of the past few months have been quiet enough that it could have been a three in/three at home rota system or something. There have been week long stretches of us just sitting there with nothing to do, putting ourselves and each other at risk. We have had the occasional WFH day here and there, but only when HIS boss mentions it to him. The exception to all this is one of my colleagues who has managed to get every Monday and Friday as WFH without question, despite openly admitting the other day that she can't access the ordering systems etc she needs to actually do her job from home. Did I mention she's our supervisor's wife? :eyes:

I'm actually feeling more frightened than I have in months about the prospect of returning in January with this more infectious strain going around, it's quite worrying :(
 
Boris and the government's mishandling is absolutely to blame for the levels of non-compliance we're seeing right now. Consistently overpromising and under delivering, woolly or overly complex rules, and changes announced at the drop of a hat has used up most of the goodwill and public spiritedness that existed.

I think lots of people are genuinely past caring now and just want to get on with life (who doesn't!) even though it's making a bad situation worse. It's absolutely not right but the UK government's back of a fag packet approach has caused this.
 
Hmmm, just had a call from nursery and looks like a positive case in Dannii's class so we have to go collect her. They're keeping Kylie in though. I don't know what that means, are we now isolating for 10 days?

This is still a no for Star, but there's more than one reason to isolate!

The whole thing is DEVELOPING COUNTRY LEVELS of incompetency and short-sightedness but LET'S BLAME THE FRENCH!
 
Lots of people called it at the time but Cummings being allowed to sit in the rose garden at Downing Street and take the piss out of the entire country was absolutely the start of the mass non-compliance that has led us to where we are now. It is impossible for these people to do a thing that doesn't have self-interest at its core. They sit there peddling war metaphors when they've done the equivalent of giving the Spitfire contract to a chum who usually makes teddy bears but made a donation before the last election and is a frightfully decent chap so we've given him 6 times the usual price for no planes at all.

My mum just phoned me in an upset panic about Xmas plans.

As much as I understand it, making people fear arrest for seeing their family at Christmas is as low as I think this country has been since WW2.
