This is what i’m unsure about. It says you can
exercise once a day in your local area. But define “local area” in a place like London! Also hard to stay in very close proximity to your house if cycling is your exercise of choice - if local area means Borough then we’re looking at 5 mins west on the bike and I’m in the City of London. 15 mins north i’m in Hackney.
I know I shouldn’t be looking for loopholes but as I said with Tier 4, I just don’t think me being out on my bike alone is the reason we’re in this mess and it’s been pretty much the only thing keeping me sane.

I went cycling for miles when in lockdown 1. Mind you, I live 2 miles from the countryside, so I didn't feel bad about that.

I went cycling for miles during the second lockdown (since I was back in London) and had no trouble. I don’t cycle in crowded places anyway (why would you? It’s a pain in the arse). Roads are usually pretty quiet, especially in the evenings.

'Local area' is really intended to mean you do it FROM your local area, doesn't it? So going on a ten mile cycle or walk from home isn't a problem, but you shouldn't drive out of your local area and then cycle or walk from there. That's how I understood it first time around, anyway.

Herne Hill was PACKED on Sunday with people socialising with their takeaway pints from the various pubs so probably for that reason.
I did think at that point that they should probably change the “takeaway only” rule for food and drink to “delivery only.”

It was the same here along the river. But people could do it with supermarket booze as well. It’s fucked over pub landlords who will now have barrels of booze that will just go off. They can’t very well deliver pints to people’s homes.

People COULD do it with supermarket booze but I guess when it’s a pub it’s basically inviting people to gather outside.
Of course the human ability to find loopholes is staggering so I’m sure it’ll happen but pub takeaways always struck me as a bit of an open goal.
Not that I relish the thought of what pub owners are having to deal with either.

Sick of it partly because if they'd just lock down HARD when needed instead of all the dithering and half measures, it'd be like ripping a plaster off instead of slooooowly and painfully easing it off and pulling your hairs one one by one. It'd be a short sharp pain and over quick. Like in China.
Wonder if the work from home thing will have any TEETH, as our place felt they needed to let us in the first lockdown but haven't felt that since.
But all in all sick of it even being privileged enough to have VR.. it's that we keep hoping it's almost over and yet there's always another "ah but" around the corner... if it's not over by the end of the year and we're into year 3 of this shit then I'm either seeking out an island somewhere where we agree to take the risk, or ending it, because this isn't living. It's just waiting longer to die.

There is an end in sight though. The vaccine is here and hopefully this will be the final lockdown/few months of this. It can't go into a third year surely. Either way, take care of yourself. This can be so hard on mental health

We hit the bottom with these things very quickly. There are usually a couple of decent ones but, like all jokes, most of 'em are shit and some of them are even unhelpful.

Antivax ("scepticism about the long term effects") is rife, the govt are ignoring the scientific advice about the timings of the jabs potentially rendering them useless (all for the sake of fudging the "number of people vaccinated" stat), even at the quoted 1 million a week it'd take over 2 years to give both doses to the full population, that's assuming competence (lol), and all the while it's a race against mutations... sooner or later probably into a version that the vaccine doesn't work with and then we're back to square 1 of February 2020

My mum (retired nurse) did this, but there were so many non-medical volunteers she has to wait for them to get through them all before they start the second round. She could have signed up as a paid worker as she has the qualifications but she doesn't want to get paid for doing it (and have to sort out coming out of retirement again, getting her P45, etc.) so is just waiting. There should be some sort of fast-track for people who want to volunteer and who can actually administer the vaccinations.
I asked how confident she was at jabbing someone and she said she could "do it with her eyes shut!", so I hope someone else does mine.

I don't think it's quite fair to say that they're ignoring the scientific advice regarding the timing of the jabs. It's untested, but there are plenty of credible scientists who are happy to say that it's a reasonable response to the situation which we have found ourselves in. There should be very little chance of the jabs being rendered useless, although they will probably end up with lower levels of immunity than advertised. The theory seems to be that some immunity for more people is better than none, given the infection levels at the moment. It also seems like they believe that a vaccine to a mutated version will be much easier to make than the first vaccine because they already know the theory of how to do it and just need to make some tweaks to the active part.Is it in sight though? I am absolutely FLABBERGASTED that football games are still going ahead. Not only the fact that bus loads of players and people affiliated with football clubs are gathering to get to/from games but it is encouraging people to gather at each others houses to watch said football games.
