Sadly I can only go to over 40s nightclubs now, that only play music from the 80s, 90s and 00s.

OMG

22nd for me. Something tells me it’s not happening:(

Probably not though there’s a VERY SLIM CHANCE. I presume all other dates in 2021 have been taken so it’ll postponed ANOTHER YEAR! (I think I bought the tickets 18 months ago?!)

I so want to be optimistic that this'll happen, but I'm struggling quite a bit at the moment. You just know that all of those pestilential schoolkids will push the rate back up and everything will be cancelled whilst I'm actually on my way to a beer garden.

I've got the week of the 20th June booked off work.

I imagine there'll be SOME DELAY so I'm not expecting the full return to normalcy, but hopefully I'll be able to ACTUALLY DO THINGS with ACTUAL PEOPLE.

I am absolutely not getting excited about anything. There's still far too much drudgery to go before the fun, and too many things that can go wrong.

Oh I’m hoping for an EASTER HEATWAVE so I can have a barbecue.

I really hope they enforce mask wearing FOREVER.

Actually got a bit BREATHLESS at this headline :manson: I really think people (inc. the media and Twitter etc.) need to not get too excited because people see things like this and think it's all fine and start pushing ahead with living normally. We just can't at the moment. Certainly not before everyone's vaccinated.

I still think it's setting up for a fall. Look at the excitement in this thread alone.

I’m happy to have a vague idea of how things are intended to go, and if they do stick to their pledge of delaying if need be then fine. I’d rather face the disappointment of not being able to go to the pub for another while than face yet another lockdown.

I think it was pretty clear that they are the earliest dates and they can be pushed back if the tests aren’t met.

Hopefully he has the balls to stick to this. I remember last summer when he did that prerecorded announcement with animated graphs, and everything was going to be linked to the science, and then government couldn’t be bothered to wait and just relaxed it all anyway.

Cautiously optimistic. While there is an internal voice saying 'it'll all go tits up' it really does look like the vaccines are working in reducing transmission and illness. I'll just be happy if I can drink outside, go camping and biking.

Ugh i do resent the fact they’ll cram a load of kids in a classroom but you won’t be able to meet more than one person in a sodding park for another three weeks after that.
Well glad I booked AirBnb near my parents and sisters in April last night , imagine there’ll be a rush on now. Weird to think will have been six months since i’ve seen them. Not seen my brother in over a year :/

Quite the contrast between here and Reddit where they're all "too slow, open up now"

I'd rather it's slow than temporary. I just hope the schools don't make it slower...

The scientific advice has been published too.

@SamCoatesSky: Summary from the key SAGE doc on the modelling of releasing restrictions.

I was about to post this! I feared this type of gung-ho announcement was coming today, and now I despair. All the time we’ve spent in lockdown only for them to make the same mistakes again.

Seriously though, i’ve waited THIS LONG... I may as well wait until i’m basically safe and can actually enjoy myself without worrying. I’m nervous about the peer pressure to do this or that come the summer.

In all honesty though, the news has also made me quite anxious and upset for totally unrelated reasons. I feel like a very different person to who I was before the pandemic and am really nervous that seeing people again will necessitate me coming out to people as trans/non-binary in settings where I haven’t already (e.g. work, some family members)

My real concern is that the numbers are down due to lockdown rather than vaccines. You really can't prove it either way unless you test it against total lockdown vs no lockdown. Both are terrible in their own way.

Still anecdotal, but numbers are way down in the US, which has vaccines but no lockdowns

There are other less obvious factors - bad cold weather will naturally create less mixing. Also immunity.

Yes to the weather, but the cold weather also leads people to mix inside when they might mix outside in good weather

If we all have to take annual jabs SO BE IT.

It's not gonna be gone by summer, but hopefully it's not quite going to be at DISASTER LEVELS.

I could easily see annual shots forever, in the same way as flu shots. I wouldn't mind that
