Diddy’s Asian Persuasion V: Sunday 21/8 12.00 BST

Brown Eyed Girls - Abracadabra

I was dimly aware of these girls before, and South Korea really DOES do a girl-banger like few others, and it doesn't even seem like this is a one-off for this group either. Can you imagine Girls Aloud doing something like this? I want to.

PSY ft Suga of BTS - That That

No introduction needed here, with Psy - the one who busted open the door for K-Pop to find a place in western charts, and a member of BTS - the group who blasted the doorway completely and are enjoying worldwide success that western group haven't even been able to replicate in recent times. PSY does have some good songs if you have any interest in what you've heard so far.

Are you yassing at Daddy or are you somehow STILL a minute ahead of me? Are you watching these on fucking Fast Forward?!

T-Ara - Sugar Free

Now THIS was a hot discovery - A K-Pop girlband who seem to ONLY make unrestrained bangerz. I couldn't even decide which one to send, and while "Bo Peep" is pretty amazing, the sheer throwing of everything at this one really made it essential. RICH! (but sugar-free)

The amount of cuts in this music video gives me a nosebleed.

There is someone on YouTube who has counted them, I'll dig it out.

Sophie Muller could NEVER

this is like one of those strobe-light songs people enter into ASFM, except instead of being unlistenable it's a GALE FORCE 9 BANGER

671 cuts we just had. That's 2.88 cuts per second on average.

That poor editors bleeding fingers.

YOU CAN'T BE A MINUTE AHEAD AGAIN!

I skip the last few minutes of each song when you post that you finished and somehow I'm still miles behind!

Girls Generation - Forever 1

Happy things to happen in 2022 - Girls Generation got back together for a new album. I haven't really gotten into any of their albums (Korean albums are numerous as they are confusing), but a curious rental of their Greatest Hits was an astonishingly all-killer collection that really floored me. Welcome back girls.

CHAPTER FOUR - SOUNDTRACK

Lisa - Gurenge

I don't know about in the UK, but Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no yaiba) is a phenomenon here. The manga was tremendously successful, but the anime adaptation took it stratospheric. A movie was made after the first season, which not only became the highest grossing movie in Japan of all time, it was even the highest grossing movie in the WORLD for 2020, the first time a non-English movie has done so. Enter Lisa, a successful singer in her own right, who enjoyed massive success with this opening song for Kimetsu no Yaiba, as well as themes for the movie and second series.

Koda Kumi - Real Emotion

For all my love of Utada and Ayumi, Koda Kumi is the 3rd part of the 2000s pop queen trifecta, and yet I know little about her back catalogue - she always seemed like the more overtly sexual of the three, and had no trouble sharing her opinion - occasionally getting her in hot water after sharing her opinions on later-life pregnancy. Anyway, you may recognise this as one of soundtrack songs from Square Enix's Final Fantasy X-2, which plays a major and fabulous role in the main story. Love it!
