Both my cousins got vests for their dogs so they can take them with them everywhere and it’s so annoying. When we we would go to a restaurant they have them in their laps feeding them. It was gross.

thats the worst! I understand actual service animals but dogs in restaurants is so gross

I think I wouldn’t mind it if i didn’t have to play HIDE IT! HIDE IT! ANDREW’S COMING! but inevitably they ARE a distraction and not conducive to anyone getting any work done
I'm QUITE UNCOMFORTABLE around them. I hate the societal presumption that everyone think they're great.

All children under 5 are pretty terrible.

Children between 5 and 12 that I am in some way related to can be ok in short bursts.

Teenagers are boring.

Only in shorter bursts.

Actually, I often like the kids better than their parents. Oops.

I just hate the screaming ones. I’ve been reliably told by both parents that my brother and I weren’t like that at all. Obviously we must have annoyed them by fighting with each other but we never did it in public.

I love little Kylie's age (3), he's a lot of fun and watching his mind grow and learn is amazing. I struggle when they're younger though, some days (like today) just feel like it's been non stop crying...

Oh I never know what to say to teenagers. Some friends of mine have two daughters who I liked when they were younger but now they’re teenagers, what do you talk about? Instagram? Who they like in the hit parade? I generally pretend that they’ve forgotten I exist anyway and that they don’t care if I more or less ignore them out of awkwardness

I hate kids, and they have made all my friends who have them (or even want them) boring. I miss when they had more free time. I also hate interacting with them, they're dull, no different to every other child, and I have no idea what to say or do with them.

With babies though, it's worse. I'm genuinely scared of them. I think it's something to do with the fact that they don't quite look like humans, entirely out of proportion. I clam up around babies and will find any excuse to leave whenever I am near one. Someone once waved a baby they were holding towards me, and I came so close to hitting the baby out of instinct.

They didn't try that stunt again though. :emoji_shrug:

Remember sometimes your friends might miss their old life too, they might miss you not interacting with them anymore, and they might miss being something other than a parent.

Oh, I only came in to the thread to do the "yes but I couldn't eat a whole one" joke, only to find it was redundant after about 8 posts.

This is a fair point actually. Not one that I’ve generally borne in mind. People having children does tend to alter the friendship dynamic, though

Having said that, the people I went to uni with or my friends from school who've got kids now are all pretty relaxed mums and dads and while a lot of their time obviously revolves around their kids, it's not all-consuming. Most of them seem to have a healthy balance.

I always try to ask them about themselves but so many of them just turn it back around to the kids. So you stop bothering after NOT VERY LONG.

Yes, I don’t really want to know the KIDS are. I want to know how THEY are. “Have you had a nervous breakdown yet?” etc.

Babies are cute and lovely while they're in a good mood, once they start crying though they can go back to mummy. When boss's daughter brought her baby in to the office I was usually first in line for a cuddle. Now she's walking she'll grab my hand and take me to what she wants which is incredibly cute and she's also trying to talk.
I think my favourite age would have to be 3-4 because they want you to get down on the floor to play with toys and sing songs and be daft with them and they don't care how stupid you look doing the dance to Jingle Jangle Scarecrow or that you get the words wrong. Another ten years and they're giving you dirty looks from across the room because you said that BTS song was crap even though you don't have a clue who BTS are.

I hate them. I don’t want any and will never have them. There’s always someone who wants to tell me “You’ll change your mind one day”. Fuck off. I love my life. Why would I ruin it with children? (If you have or want them, good on you).

I also get “then why do you work at a school?”
I don’t have to look after them and when I go home at the end of the day I don’t have to bring them with me.

Nope. I can cope with them for very limited periods but I find them very needy and selfish and I don't like it when they touch basically anything of mine.

Also I really want to go up to little bastards screaming in public and tell them Satan eats noisy children.

Depends on whether they're a little shit or not :D

Bit of a child at heart so generally yes. Exceptions include SQUEALERS, overly disruptive, or obnoxious groups of teenagers who like mocking other people

Can't see the appeal of babies. May have a few feminine streaks but just cannot with groups of women cooing over babies, like.. what

I don’t hugely mind with my parent friends. One of my best friends has a daughter who’s nearly 3 and she’s currently going through a difficult second pregnancy. We also work together so speak nearly every day. It wasn’t planned and says she was happy with the one child but is having the second just to gift her daughter a sibling!

I think she gets frustrated whenever all talk about herself comes round to babies. She’d much rather be talking about something else, but it can’t really be helped.
