Eastenders 2020

The Pat and Frank reveal was on BBC1 tonight - I think it might be my favourite ever episode.
 
Do we think this is going to come back with big viewing figures? Maybe a break was what was needed.

BRITISH singer Mica Paris in joining EastEnders playing a character set to ruffle feathers :goodgrief: in Albert Square.

The London-born soul star, famous for hits including My One Temptation and Where Is the Love, will appear in September as Ellie Nixon - who has a shock connection with a Walford resident.

She’s the latest chart star to join the soap following Blue’s Lee Ryan, Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp and David Essex.

A source said: “EastEnders wants to return with a bang following lockdown and Mica will certainly supply the spark.

“Her character is fiery and passionate and will take no prisoners.

“Walford won’t know what’s hit it.”

As well as racking up seven albums, Mica, 51, has also appeared in musicals Fame and Chicago and authored a book called Beautiful Within.

Speaking about joining the soap, she says: “I am absolutely over the moon to be in EastEnders.

"I have been a fan since its first episode with Susan Tully being my favourite.

“My character the formidable Ellie Nixon, is a new frontier for me as an actress - a lot of folks will see me as never before.”

EastEnders will return to BBC1 on Monday, September 7
 
Interesting piece about the new methods of filming

I'm most curious about using actors' real-life partners as body doubles for kissing scenes - hoping for a game of spot the very obvious wigs and height differences :disco: I also can't imagine the CGI compositing will be as seamless as they think, considering the state of some of the ADR lines from just before lockdown - poor Gilly Taylforth sounded like she was inside a diving bell when she recorded them.

They're doing 20-minute episodes for the foreseeable future, apparently because it takes longer to produce the show at the moment. I wonder whether they considered doing full length episodes but dropping to three per week?
 
Apparently there'll be a major character return this Christmas, but no indication about who it'll be. My instinct is usually to scream JANINE PLEASE and I'd still love that of course, but I think I'd currently prefer a return from Jane Beale because her exit last time was just so badly handled.

YES for both. The way they’ve all just forgotten about Jane and how she was intimidated to leave because of Max is ridiculous. Does Ian still not know how Max pretty much killed Steven?
 
He doesn't! And now they're running the restaurant he died in together :D If ever it felt like they were trying to sweep a particular era of the show under the rug...

Maybe he’ll find out and forgive him since Ian pretty much did the same thing to Denny.

Oooh interesting! They've gone to more effort to make it look like 'normal' than Corrie has - I find the social distancing really obvious in their episodes.
 
That isn't actually a spoiler. Eastenders have announced it.

I can't think of a time an abusive male has killed their partner in a soap.
 
Surely anything that hasn’t played out on screen yet is still a spoiler?

Obviously I totally get why it was announced in advance though. I’m sure it’ll be triggering for some people.

I can’t think of a time when it’s been done either. How many times have we had a victim lashing out and ending up in prison? :rolleyes:
 
Obviously the abused killing abuser is more satisfying and an absolute soap trope. This is (possibly) more likely.
 
I guess the most realistic scenario (the abuse going on for years and years and years with the victim never speaking up or empowering themselves) doesn't make for especially "good television" so the conclusion is always going to be a bit sensational in one way or another. Although tragically of course this does happen.
 
So sad :(

And sad to lose the character involved too, they had become one of my favourites in the show.
Not the best time to be an OUT OF WORK ACTOR either :eyes:
 
I am QUITE EXCITED about this coming back tonight. It better be a banger. Starting again is a one off opportunity.
