I lie. Ian's cousin Michelle has a baby with her Dad.

Yes adopted, but STILL. She married her adoptive brother didn't she? :D

They're not related, but they've been best friends for so long... he did have a brief crush on her way back in the Eighties and it's also not out of character for Ian to suddenly fixate on a woman (see him tripping over his dick for Mel when she came back), but it being Sharon just feels a bit odd and I can't QUITE put my finger on why. I think it's something I'll be able to get used to, but I can't see Sharon ever going there - if Ian stacks the weight back on then shaves his head, maybe :basil:

I couldn't help notice how much TRIMMER Adam Woodyatt appeared to be tonight - one of the few people to lose weight during lockdown, the bastard :tongueout:

He HAS lost weight hasn't he?!

But yes they've been friends for over 35 years, so yes very weird. And gross.

I always find it really strange when people who have been friends for years suddenly get together as a couple. Crossing that line is no mean feat. Look at Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner. Despite playing a married couple the fact it took them over 10 years to get together just seems rather, WEIRD.

Are any of the old families not connected in any way?

The Slaters, Brannings, Cottons, Fowler, Mitchells, Beales, Butchers are all connected. I can't think that the Foxes or Carters have married or had babies with any of those families.

That's just like COLLEAGUES though, isn't it? Is it really any different than any actors in a show together? I don't remember Outnumbered all that well, but it wasn't like they were having realistic sex scenes together every week, was it?

I guess the Carters and Masoods are connected. And of course Syed is married to Christian who is Ian's brother in law. And Denise was fucking Ian briefly.

Ah maybe so. Just seems a bit far fetched. But then this IS EastEnders.

Also, Ben and Callum are not exactly believable as a couple. And we’re meant to believe that Callum is now a policeman, and the police were fine about him being in a relationship with a convicted killer not to mention his boyfriend’s father being one of the most notorious criminals in the East End of London? It’s not against the rules but surely they’d have mega concerns about it. Though I suspect this storyline is only so that Callum can be used as a pawn to get the police to turn the other cheek to dubious activities.

The potrayal of the police on Eastenders has never been realistic. Remember DCI Marsden - she seemed to arrest someone in every episode she appeared in, usually without a shred of evidence. And that's ignoring the fact she'd usually discuss the police case in great detail with the suspects.

I do love a good EastEnders wiki session :D All roads usually lead to Pauline's dreadful Irish relatives for me, for some reason.

I know Mary the Punk and Lofty came back briefly earlier this year and it was terrible.

to be honest I don’t think any soap portrays the police accurately. I suppose we don’t soaps for REALISM, do we?

sorry, did Lofty return and people thought he would be FIT?

BRING BACK THE DEFINITIVE QUEEN B.

That’s another thing. I get that people change as they get older, but each time they recast a character they seem to have a completely different personality and behaviour than the previous one with absolutely nothing in common with the previous one!

Recasting Michelle was probably the one of the worst soap decisions ever made. Who the fuck thought THAT was a good idea?

I hope we get 100 more Ben's. You know it's a new year when you there's a new Ben.

I still think they could have made Michelle work with Jenna Russell, she was good when they gave her decent material - there were a few scenes where I really believed she could have been Susan Tully's Michelle just with some added airs and graces. The big problem was making her main storyline that stupid American teenage boyfriend (complete with annoying actor) which just felt horribly misjudged... after that she pretty much hung around Sharon's house, got an offscreen job in a shop, then left. What was the point? You bring back a character like that and don't really mine their history and connections with the rest of the cast... it was just BIZARRE, her whole stint felt like she was there on holiday.

I don’t think I have ever worked out the answer to this one. How is Mo both Kat and Staceys nan? Kats mother was the daughter of Mo, but Staceys dad was Charlie’s brother so she can’t be Staceys nan?

Denise and Kim pretend Patrick is their father despite only having met 15 years ago. Several Jacksons and Brannings consider Dot to be their grandmother. So go figure.

Yes Charlie is/was Stacey's great uncle. She's not actually related to Mo but calls her Nan in the same way that a friend of your mother is an "Auntie".

Stacey just calls her Nan because she sees her as one, I think! Sonia does similar with Dot.
