I always forget Michelle has a son with Grant! That's another thing, they brought him (Mark Jr) in for a brief stint shortly before Michelle returned, then they didn't really mention him at all or try to connect them in any way while she was there! You'd think they'd bring him and Vicki in if they wanted to do something long term with Michelle...

I think we're on a hiding to nothing trying to understand the realities of soap world - a place where someone pops upstairs and comes back down 10 years older. Or where Carol Jackson mysteriously seemed to be putting on/taking off her anorak in EVERY FUCKING SCENE.

In Classic Eastenders last week Alan Jackson revealed he was supposed to be 27 years old, with Carol being 30/31. Still baffled, although the actor was 32, but he looked 45.

I believe he was with Peggy! They were going to go to Spain and take Zoe with them, which was part of why Kat ended up revealing everything.

She dated DR TRUEMAN then Dennis who sacked her off for his sister. I don't really remember anything else. They tried to create a new teeny gang with her and Brooke Kinsella at one point.

I think Zoe was streets above Whitney as a character, though there are similarities. But then she was from a more iconic time.
I think the powers that be are probably hoping that Michelle Ryan will decide to come back at some point, or they would have recast her. They probably held out for Susan Tully for years before recasting her. They only tend to do recasts when they want to move the character on, like with Janine, Lauren and Ben, or when the old actor doesn't want to come back like Peter and Michelle.
I wonder if there are ANY charcters that are not in the show at the moment that they wouldn't DARE to recast. Janine SURELY. Can you imagine someone else other than Charlie Brooks as Janine? Surely that would be irredeemable.

Yet another Sam Mitchell is due, surely, since her son with Jack is still in it. I never got why they went back to Danielle Westbrook for that short time, when Kim Medcalf gave the character so much more depth.

I much preferred Kim Medcalf. She had some iconic storylines, eg the Den plot, being Steve's mistress. I always remember how she turned up in black at Steve's funeral to Mel's utter dismay.
