The level of secrecy to conceal the victim does seem to have led to a lot of abstract dialogue or characters (like Phil) behaving almost oblivious to significant plot developments that he was involved in on Christmas Day.

Completely agree! And clearly a lot of the plots were “paused” to provide significant focus on the Six so half of the stuff that’s happening now I’m just like ?????

This does slightly resolve itself in tonight's episode, but I'd imagine Phil's story is the biggest casualty of Letitia Dean's sudden absence.

It has been slightly jarring seeing them try and kick Jack into reverse after the total twat he became in the lead-up to Christmas to build him up as a potential victim.
 
That scene with Denise falling in beside Keanu’s dead body very much reminded me of this CLASSIC moment.

 
It’s one of the well-established laws of Eastenders.

If they’re buried, someone has to end up in the grave beside them; if they’re cremated, their ashes must end up all over somebody.
 
I wish Sonia would do something to that bloody house that Dot left her. She hasn’t replaced a bloody thing.

This is one of the things that pisses me off about soaps, the weird nostalgia about stuff that doesn’t matter that they assume viewers have.

Corrie is the worst for it - the Rovers hasn’t changed one jot since the 80s despite being burned down twice, and Tyrone and Fiz’s house was still such a weird shrine to Jack and Vera last time I watched it that I was surprised they hadn’t stuffed their corpses and sat them on the settee.
 
It's that and the use of publicity photos that look straight out of a cover of The Radio Times as family photos on the wall.
 
So despite none of them knowing how to mix cement they manage to completely fill in the hole and finish it off pretty impressively, all whilst it's still fairly busy outside, attract no attention, manage to leave the cafe without being seen and none of them are dusty or look like they've done anything, even Denise, who was pushed into the hole, who then goes home to Jack who is completely oblivious to it all.

And the cement will barely have set by the time the workmen are due back, and if it has it will still look pretty new to raise suspicion over where it came from. Surely the whole place needs gutting anyway due to the fact that it’s not even going to be a cafe anymore.

Exactly, they’re building flats, surely there’ll need to be foundations going down!

Not to mention the fact some of them were in heels too.
 
The whole completion of the hole digging, concrete mixing, concrete pouring, concrete setting was done, I think, the pub had even shut. Pure soap.
 
It was ridiculous. I think EastEnders is VERY lucky that the show is in such rude health because I guarantee if the same scene had taken place in Coronation Street, it would've been torn to shreds.
 
I think Eastenders exist in such a realm of celebrated camp and reverence that it can (excuse the pun) get away with murder. It's somewhat post-Dynasty and Dallas what with now three (Dirty Den, Kathy and Cindy?) characters returning from the dead and it just being accepted as a lol

It does at the moment. But they tried something similar with the Gray serial-killer storyline (albeit evolving it from domestic abuse, which was an ick move), and it didn't land at all.

I do agree the failure of the Gray plot was entirely due to the terrible decision to "fun bus" what was once a domestic abuse plot.

But I am still waiting for LAWYER LAURA to be brought back who was utterly amazing

It’s been over four years since she last appeared on EastEnders, but Bianca Jackson is on her way back to our screens as Patsy Palmer is set to reprise her role for a short stint this spring.

Having briefly returned in 2019, Patsy reprises her role as Whitney and Zack visit Bianca in Milton Keynes following her off-screen break-up with Terry, but it’s not long before chaos ensues.

Bianca first landed on our screens in 1993 as the fiery, sharp-tongued daughter of Carol Jackson and remains heavily connected to Walford through the Branning family and two of the show’s much-loved characters, step-daughter Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) and sister Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy). Over her 13 collective years in Albert Square, Bianca was never far away from drama having been involved in some of the show’s most iconic storylines including the discovery that David Wicks was her dad, her tumultuous relationship with Ricky Butcher and Whitney’s abuse within the family storyline which aired in 2008.

Bianca’s return will premiere in a special episode focusing on Whitney and the drama she faces in Milton Keynes…

On returning to EastEnders, Patsy Palmer says: “I’m so excited to be reprising the role of Bianca. EastEnders holds such a special place in my heart so it’s always a pleasure to be back.”

Chris Clenshaw, Executive Producer adds: “I’m thrilled to welcome the fabulous Patsy back to the iconic role of Bianca Jackson. That RANCID FLEECE does look exactly like something Bianca would wear, so I think the wardrobe people are doing a good job.
 
I feel like Bianca’s wardrobe for her last couple of guest spots have been a bit of a cartoon based on what people who didn’t watch in the 90s think Bianca would wear based on some clips.

I’m sure she wasn’t in all that garish getup when she was around in her late 2000s / early 2010s stint.
 
A nice send off for Sal, and quite the sudden dump of a lot of new characters and potential stories. I did see some speculation that
Billy's dad Stevie will have had an affair with Sal, making him the father of one of her kids (and giving Billy a previously unknown half-sibling too).
Poor old Lexi might have lost her mum, but at least now she'll get to meet her great-great(!)-granddad :tongueout: I do have a slight fear they're going to overdose on OLD COCKNEY BASTARDS after a period without very many (and mercifully few gangland storylines), but we'll see.
 
Was it Stevie or Eric Mitchell who killed Keeble's father? I've already forgotten :shock:
