Ellie Goulding - Delirium (Sync listen TONIGHT 8pm)

I was incredibly obsessed with On My Mind for quite a while. Was it the strongest lead single? Probably not, but it was a decent hit (#13 and 2x platinum stateside). It also spawned an ICONICALLY terrible performance, I think on UK's X Factor, where she sounded like a lamb mid-slaughter and looked about as happy. Not what I'd expect from a Max Martin track but I still really enjoy it and the final chorus coming back in after that middle 8 is quite a MOMENT!

what do these two words have to do with one another?

OMG! Around U is pure feelgood joy! I absolutely CANNOT with my sis @Pipo denouncing it as a "what was she thinking?" moment. There's no accounting for taste I guess!

A very firm favourite of mine - the chorus is such a FIZZY RUSH! I've done JARKAOKE to this song into a hairbrush more times than you could CARE to IMAGINE. and bitch, I always slay it.

"Around U" middle eight might be the most joyous piece of pop music of 2015, Carly Rae notwithstanding...

10 Codes

This has been my favorite and main take away from this album since it came out. I just think the lyrics, melody, and beat work so well together. SO catchy as well

Was "Codes" a single? I think it could have done things in the States. Another lovely middle eight...

is the good sis @RJN on the verge of reactivating his Delirium stan card? We do love to see it.

I just might be. I have had this down as her weakest album, but I'm thinking its less weak and just different than the rest

Imagine how differently this campaign could've gone if the singles had included Something In The Way You Move as lead, Codes to follow, and then perhaps Holding On For Life or We Can't Move To This. It was really one of the most horribly managed album campaigns of the last decade. Again, a highly joyous track with a really easy rhythm.

08 Holding On For Life - Joyous is right. I'm not the world's biggest handclap fan, but I'm liking them here. A great middle 8 here. A chorus would have been nice though

I believe Holding On For Life is this album's ZENITH. Produced again by Greg Kurstin, it's so catchy and builds so gloriously from verse to bridge to chorus, never quite exploding but always keeping the listener in its SEDUCTIVE GRIP. There's something a bit (yes) sultry about the gospel backing vox, the hints of piano-house, the way it falls away in the middle 8...

People have criticised the album for its repetitious choruses a lot but fuck this is an ANTHEM!

Forgot "Love Me Like You Do" was on here. I used to BLAST this on my headphones at the gym and get looks :D

OK I'm already revising Holding On To Life up to a 9 (maybe 10) after the 2nd half. I think it might need a few more listens, but the end really HIT

Love Me Like You Do is gorgeous and genuinely SEXY imo. It probably doesn't fit into the album particularly, but its so anthemic. I'm glad it was such a massive hit for her here. These days, I think its her most remembered

I'll let you set the pace
Cos I'm not thinking straight
My head's spinning around
I can't see clear no more
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FORRRRRRRRRRR :disco:

I kind of wish Britney got this for Glory. It requires no range but so effective and so beautiful. SERENE.

OK I never do this 'cos I'm not @Eddie but I'm going to have to award two 11s here.

this song is SO masterfully written, produced and delivered. it's really an exercise in creating a GREAT pop song with universal appeal, and I'm sorry but if you hate this track there's something broken inside of you. it's heartfelt but not twee, anthemic but not calculated - a once-in-a-career kinda song. THEY DID THAT. soon to hit a billion streams.

I don't know why I'm being so negative about this... I'm really liking the whole album so far

like Keep On Dancin', Don't Need Nobody feels a bit more focus-grouped in riding the very tail end of the EDM and dubstep waves that took over pop for a while post-Rihanna's LOUD, but it still absolutely goes off. the middle 8 is my favourite part - this album has loads of GORGEOUS MIDDLE 8s, as all great pop music should.

"you are the realest thing I've never had to fake" - WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

10 Don't Panic - Now THIS is a great chorus

"Why you wanna ruin a good thing
Can't we take it back to the start
When love's not playing out like the movies
It doesn't mean it's falling apart"

A good reminder.

Also love the middle 8 in this A LOT

Don't Panic is probably my least essential track so far but I still think she's a REALLY CUTE GIRL! I just think the chorus marginally runs out of steam by the end, like it's missing a big post-chorus moment or something. "I got big dreams baby" - relatable hun!
