@funky @Alex What is the likelihood of getting knifed to death in Anfield and/or Toxteth please?
ERM all I know is Anfield = football (bad) and Toxteth was riots and it looks a little dodgy driving through it.
Sefton Park/Lark Lane area is quite nice, otherwise my Liverpool knowledge is rather lacking.
I took my mother to Southport and she tried to get a coffee in a fish and chip restaurant. She was appalled that they didn’t have filtered coffee. The waitress responded that nobody had ever complained about NESCAFF before.
Read into that what you will.

Even for the amusement of others, take heed of @funky ‘s advice and DO NOT stay in Anfield. Kirkdale is probably another good swerve as is Kensington. Toxteth is fine people!

Is the clamour for tickets for the tech rehearsals still huge too?

Serious question for @funky, has Southport improved in recent years? I had fond memories of going there as a child, but last time I went (about ten years ago) it was a horribly depressing ghost town with about 75% of the shops boarded up.

It seemed on the way back up a couple of years back when I went. It’s no MORECAMBE.
The pier is nice with the old fashioned machines at the end.

The town centre definitely has had its day. Very sad. But that was never the main part of Southport - the coastal side still does ok.

It’s just not really a town for most of us because it’s for pensioners during the day and kids at night. That said, there’s a bit of a revival with some nice bars and pubs dotted about.

It’s the planning of Southport that’s all wrong. All that coastline and there’s barely a thing on it. Never known a coastal town to face INWARDS

Why are you looking to stay there too?

Anfield is part of the “North Liverpool” as in inner city north, which includes Everton, Walton, Kirkdale and parts of Bootle and is considered one of the most deprived parts of the country. All your worst elements of the impact of Thatcher Britain, a forgotten area that needs a lot of help.

But it’s not just that - Anfield has no train station, barely any buses, difficult to get an Uber, there’s no shops, no bars, it’s just sadly forgotten land. Unless you’re going to a match there’s absolutely no reason to stay there.

And especially because Liverpool as a REGION is one of the biggest metro areas in the country, so there’s no actual need to, there’s so much other choice.

Best place outside the very centre is to look at central south - Brunswick, Aigburth, Cressington, Garston, Sefton Park

Places in central south like Wavertree, Edge Hill and Toxteth aren’t exactly Knightsbridge but they have much better transport links and more going on.

Anywhere along the coast north of bootle strand is fine. But they contain some of the wealthiest parts of U.K. so air b&b will be expensive. I’d personally stay there but I’m old and snobby.

I’ve been waiting for this to come up so that I wasn’t the first person to mention it.

Liverpool was chosen on Monday night/Tuesday morning. There’s a super injunction in place that covers this as to protect the BBC and EBU from harrassement from @ZenGiraffe

I know due to my work which is why I’ve been reluctant to mention it on here - we’ve all been sworn to secrecy but seeing as this thread is hidden I should be okay.

Apparently the BIG REVEAL will be on The One Show on Friday.

EURGH.

There is a special place in hell for people who make me watch The One Show.

I hope funky doesn’t take it too hard when Liverpool doesn’t get it.

I won’t even be GOING! :basil:

I’ll just be mad I won’t be able to put my flat on airB&B for a week to some precious old queen who needs to stay in the burbs.

I respectfully declined Sky News looking for gays to ask about Eurovision on Buchanan Street earlier. My friend was not so camera shy. Had no idea it was down to 2 cities.
