Everyone has a real life angel in their life

I have a couple. My Nan, obviously, who has helped me out so many times over the years. Especially that time she rescued me from working in a brothel in Amsterdam over 20 years ago.

And then more recently there's my friend Stefan, who has just been an absolute angel this last year. He's given me so much encouragement and also helped to lift me up and provide just the best advice.

I’ve got myself

PREACH!

I have relied on others, and have a lot of people out there who I would say care for me but I have learnt to rely on myself. I am the only strong, independent lady who is there for ME 24/7. I am a nurturer for my children, and Mama Reet and most of my siblings are hundreds of miles away. I have nobody else but me, and I have learnt to be happy with that.

I agree, but it’s not like I don’t have a big caring family and many loving friends, but I usually find troubling them with my problems and worries gives me a bigger problem than dealing with it on my own.

My gran always told me that my great-grandad was my guardian angel but she was a spiritualist and believed in all that kind of stuff. The fact that he ran off with the Merchant Navy to New Zealand in WW1 leaving his wife and small children destitute at home then went AWOL from the ANZACs and did a stint in military prison makes me think that a useful guardian angel is the very last thing he'd be!

I don't think I've ever had a real-life angel myself but I'll always try to be one for somebody else if I can.

this thread title really reads like Holly Willoughby introducing a new segment on This Morning

Yeah I think we were all too quick to jump in with our own angels. Pray tell @Nancy

Oh, it’s nothing too exciting, just one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time. It was the year 2000 and I was accessing the internet in Easy Everything when this guy in Amsterdam approached me with the offer of work in his brothel in Amsterdam. He made it sound so glamourous and a few weeks later, I’d given up my flat in West Dulwich and flew out.
As soon as I’d landed, I was put to work. Literally on the drive back from the airport, I was dropped off at some guy’s house and had to go and do the deed while he waited in the car outside. Two more customers later that night and the realisation that it wasn’t actually luxury living (I had to share a room with two others), plus the fact it turned out I was only getting about 30 quid per client, I had to get away. I called my Nan and told her that my bar job in Amsterdam wasn’t the whole truth and I needed to get away, she booked me a plane ticket home and I escaped from the brothel house (who wasn’t very happy as he’d paid for my plane ticket over).

Anyway, it was all for the best because as soon as I was back in London, my emerging wisdom tooth caused an abscess in my mouth and I had to go for emergency dental surgery. Funny how things turn out.

Fascinating and terrifying. Glad you're ok. When you write your autobiography, this better get a separate chapter.
