Givenchy has become one of the worst performing brands ever since Tisci left all the way back in 2017. Their RTW has been both creatively and commercially poor, especially their leather goods, and their Haute Couture shows are straight up paused indefinitely (although the service is still available).
I really like Sarah Burton, but she's not the right person to rescue Givenchy. She's very technically capable and her work is crisp and intricate, but Givenchy needs someone who knows how to showcase and develop its mythology as well. And Burton seems completely uninterested in that, just like she was at McQueen.
I know she's only been there since 2024 but she still hasn't tried to give Givenchy the kind of recognizable and exploitable motifs, codes, treatments, and iconography that houses like Dior and Chanel enjoy whenever they need a surefire cash cow.
