I'm not sure why, but the fact that almost every song in the chart FEATURES someone else irritates me.
 
I do really like the Paul Woolford song as well to be fair, although I was listening to it 3 months ago and I'm over it now. That's the other problem with the charts these days - too fucking slow.

This top ten conclusively proves that all of the good act names have been taken. Who would call themselves 24kGoldn or Pop Smoke if they had any other choices?

Midnight Sky would be a highlight on any top 10. Although I'm sure that could easily be tested.
 
Add airplay to the chart I say. It’s not much different to people passively streaming, and would at least bring a bit of pop back to the top end of the chart.
 
I listened to the full top 40 a few weeks ago just to refresh myself. It really is so much midtempo mumbling, with a weird fixation on songs about how vaginas taste :D (Seriously, I caught about 7 explicit references to that in different songs)

There are a few decent pop acts in the mix though. I started a thread about this guy but nobody cared, which is a shame because he's great.

 
i went through these with a friend as i only knew the miley song. the mainstream feels very narrow.

Does Billboard have anything similar to ACR?

Considering Blinding Lights is #33 in the UK, I imagine it's possible it would be top ten (or almost certainly very close to it) if we didn't have it.

Their equivalent is if it goes below #50 after 26 weeks OR SOMETHING then it drops off the chart completely - I think it might need updating :eyes:

Correct, but I think it's 20 weeks. It's really meaningless though when streaming typically stagnates the top listened to songs (aka top 50) anyway. I think that rule was implemented at the height of the digital sales era to prevent classics/back catalog stuff from constantly appearing on the lower end of the chart because they were discounted on iTunes or featured on a TV program that week.

It also doesn't help that airplay is still a significant component of the Hot 100, and that tends to favor songs that have accumulated an audience for several months as opposed to new releases. I just don't know how they can combat the issue, though, because the sales chart is obviously becoming less and less authoritative on what's "popular". If the mass public wants to stream a Weeknd or Post Malone song for ten months, is there really a reason to mess with the formula to make the charts more "exciting"? Maybe a song should be retired from the Hot 100 after it leaves the top ten if it is more than 26 weeks (6 months) old? I don't know.
