Inspired by Kylie vs Madge, let's celebrate two kooky chanteuses diminishing returns. Both peaked around album 3/4 and have been infuriating us ever since. I was only able to get Pagan Poetry in before the TV went back on. It was definitely Bjork. It had been a while since I heard Bjork material for the first time and it was as exciting and bizarre as I anticipated. As I may yet to hear The Big Sky, Bjork wins by default.

The video for Pagan Poetry is quite wonderful, am I mistaken, or is the footage of her having sex actually real???
 
My favourite part is the end where the fat woman really struggle to get down onto the floor and pretend to die.
 
There's something quite sweet and endearing and English about Kate Bush, insomuch as how extraordinary her songs are, but her videos always look like community centre am-dram productions.

She's friendly with Lenny Henry and also the fabulous Joan Armatrading. I'm sure she knows others, maybe.

I know the shots of piercings were a stand-in, but I wouldn't be surprised if the sex was real (and of course those wonderful chebs-out shots of her which instantly make it one of the best videos ever :disco:)

26-8 Kate. I actually don't think she's a queen of diminishing returns at all. I love all her post The Red Shoes material to varying degrees.

Bjork on the other hand... just RETIRE.

This video (and song) is obviously QUITE LUDICROUS, but I do think Kate was at her most arrestingly beautiful around the The Sensual World/ The Red Shoes eras.

I keep meaning to get this one as a framed poster for my flat.

Y'see, I found that a potentially tough tie but Joga might be my single favourite Bjork song. She's so open and straightforward on that song and the play on the dual meaning of emergency is exquisite.

Me either, I very much take issue with that statement in the OP. Aerial is obviously perfection and while I can't say I go back to Director's Cut all that much (still great though), I blast 50 Words For Snow all year round

While crossing the LHAKPA-LA!!!
 
I never really got into The Red Shoes and I can see why she went back to some of the tracks from that and The Sensual World because the production is pretty flat in places. But I'll certainly stick up for 50 Words For Snow.
 
I would really defend a lot of the production choices in Directors Cut, and I think there's a lot to the fan theory that it was basically her laying the groundwork for the subsequent live show, given how many cuts from it she ended up performing.

I think I actually prefer the new versions of The Sensual World, Top of the City and (controversially) Deeper Understanding these days.
 
Yeah, that's what I'm saying, I can see why she went back to that material and reworked some tracks from the original releases.
