Name an election other than 2017 where opinion polls have narrowed closer to the date. I've just looked back at every one since 1997 and they've not done. On a couple of occasions they widened if anything.
 
I think Labour have done really well shifting the focus from Brexit to real shit people are experiencing, and that has worked. Plus the tories are fucking themselves over and remember when the Lib Dems were nearly relevant? This went from being a single issue election to a social issue election very quickly.

I meant in the real world. I have a lot of family that voted Brexit that have gone right off him. And Ms Rons family aren’t particularly politically astute, her sister is a classic example. She used to think Boris was hilarious, now shes sharing anti tory memes

His best bet is not to do it. If he does, the viewing figures will be through the roof and if he fucks it (which he will), it's absolutely game on. So he's best to not bother - that way, he gets a burn from a journalist which is shared largely by people who already hate him.
 
it's a bit lose-lose for BoJo right now. The Beeb have just absolutely torn him a new one and he won't like that at all, especially with the gap in the polls narrowing consistently. on the other hand, agreeing to appear will almost certainly do even more damage. what to do? Launch a new smear campaign against Corbyn! and cut funding for the disabled!
 
Launching a smear campaign is ALL the Tories can do! It's LITERALLY their campaign policy.

A few of my more... intensely pro Corbyn friends have started signing themselves up to a Facebook event called 'Jeremy Corbyn's Housewarming' on Friday 13th and I'm a bit *nervously tugs at collar*
 
I marked myself going to the Jeremy Corbyn Victory Party WEEKS ago. Get with the times, VoR's friends.

I find such delusions so tragic. I doubt we're getting surprise at 10pm next Thursday.
 
I’m all for whatever gets us through these days, if a bit of delusion makes the next week palpable, so be it. We’ll have at least another decade under Tory majority to adjust to reality (before we die of starvation or in the camps).
 
Has the Tory party shifted more to the right in recent years (like the Republican party in the US)?

Yep, and it’s virtually all down to Brexit and the recession.

Cameron was relatively socially liberal, but obviously brought in austerity which has made homelessness skyrocket, forced thousands of low income families to rely on food banks and generally screwed the poor.

May was probably a little right of Cameron but not enormously so as an individual. Once the fallout from Brexit happened, a lot of her downfall came through her failure to unite the newly empowered far right of her party with the more economically cautious centrists who saw Brexit for what it was.

Johnson is a shameless populist best known for being funny on chat shows, so he’s entirely following the Trump playbook.

Right, thanks! That was what I thought, but wasn’t sure as I haven’t been that aware of British politics prior to Brexit.

In that sense it has followed the same trend as our conservative party (even though they’re much more center liberal compared to the Tories). You have Brexit, we have the Swedendemocrats and the refugee crisis.

Oddly enough, that gives me a crumb of comfort, realising that this nightmarish slide into some dystopian future isn't unique to the UK and that it's happening across much of the world.

In an amazing turn of events, our local Tory candidate, who has been campaigning saying she is committed to tackling climate change, didn’t turn up to the local climate emergency hustings (and was the only candidate not to do so) at exactly the same time a FUCKING PLANE she hired flew over the city dragging a “Vote Donna Jones” banner.

You couldn’t make it up! :D
