Gladiators (BBC reboot)

It feels like absolutely none of them, both contenders and gladiators, haven't quite mastered a good technique once they get going on Duel.
 
The ring can go. I wonder if they'll do that event that involved the Gladiator shooting foamy things with a Nerf gun.
 
Miles went slightly too early and I think that stunned Viper a bit. I did wonder why on earth anyone not Billie would want the name Piper and even thought they'd missed a trick not playing circus style piper music to soundtrack him walking off after being disqualified.
 
They should have a bone crack sound effect ready for injury moments like this. I guess we'll just have to watch him get a massage from Steel in the locker room?
 
The injury moment made the whole episode imo. Gave actual tense moment as opposed to the nonsense that is manufactured
 
Finley is really answering the age old question about what an Upchuck from Daria would look like if he resembled a gym rat instead of just a rat.
 
With both guys getting the cramp thing, I do wonder if they'll space out the events more during filming as it goes on. The poor surprisingly huge audience though.
 
@Halli maybe? But how is it filmed? Do they setup one event and get all the contestants from each episode and do them at the same time?

I liked ep 1 a lot, though I wasn't familiar with the OG series (did it clash with Noel's House Party?). I was surprised by how into a lot of the games I got, and I liked the injury and disqualification drama.

I can understand why they went with these hosts (let's not pretend the BBC is awash with popular/good tv presenters), but also Barney was a rabbit in the headlights and needs to add a bit of WD40 to his grin. This from The Guardian review feels bang on -

Oh don’t say ANYTHING CRITICAL of the BBC in front of OUR EDDIE. Nothing but SHEER TALENT and content worth VIGOROUS APPLAUSE shown there AT ALL TIMES. :rolleyes:
