Oh Yes Big Break was definitely Saturday viewing in the 90's

Nightshade was AMAZING at Duel. When she left AMBULANCE DRIVER Rio took over who was just as good.

Interestingly Rio was interviewed recently on GLADPOD and said that she went up against Nightshade in rehearsals and it was a draw. Would have loved to see that
 
If it was a toss up between Blind Date/Gladiators/Stars In Their Eyes or BIG BREAK? People actually chose the later? I am AGOG.

It was all about John Virgo's trick shots! We were a big snooker watching family anyway. No football in our house ever.

I think we managed to get them all in my house. Whilst my dad was at the football watching the HAMMERS. God my life was like a Beautiful Thing, without the love interest.

Snooker is like watching paint dry for me, and Jim Davidson was always a bit of a CUNT so it would be a no from me. Not sure who John Virgo is. I do find it fascinating though as I never knew anyone that watched it, but if your family like snooker then that makes sense.
 
Maybe after the success of this “The Beeb” should bring back BIG BREAK too.
 
Yeah we were more of a BBC family so I do remember watching Big Break a lot. Gladiators might have been the main exception for Saturday night primetime though.
 
Jim Davidson was always a NO in our house after the wife beating of Alison Holloway, who was a local news presenter.

Had that happened now rather than the late 80s, he'd be on GBNews now.
 
I think this is where I struggle with Moopy. People trying to make out that BIG BREAK was entertaining. :D

You can well imagine both ITV and BBC are watching very closely.

ITV are apparently adding Bullseye to its list of revivals.

They already broadcast it on Alan Carrs famous game shows or whatever it was called. Another one NOT FOR ME.

Oooh I didn't know this. I know of his awful views 'fairly' recently but wasn't aware of this. Must have been LOCAL news?

I guess Jim Davidson was a big star. And snooker was HUGE in the mid/late 80s - you can see why it happened. And it ran for over a decade, so rinsing a format absolutely isn't a new thing.

I personally preferred POT BLACK

There definitely were rumours or stories of it when they divorced, but perhaps in the pre-internet age it didn't register or gain momentum outside of local news.

Yes I remember it in the 90’s. I never watched it as snooker mixed in with a quiz is my idea of hell but am assuming even then I wasn’t the target audience. :( It sounds very much like a middle to old aged game show but am assuming most were made to watch it with their families in those days as only one tv per household and luckily I had moved out by then.

Essentially it was a vehicle for Davidson. Plus Virgo had a bit of a reputation for being a bit of a joker and raconteur, so they slapped him and snooker around it. It's not the strongest format for a game show, but I suppose it was never really about that.
 
Did they have DARTS at the start of it or was that another show?
 
Looking back I think for me the pinnacle for me Saturday night was

FAMILY FORTUNES (Les Dennis hosting)
Blind Date/Suprise Surprise (Was SS sundays?!)
Baywatch
Big Break (not so much but I remember it was a Saturday staple)

Anything I am forgetting in the early/mid 90's?

Was krypton factor weekend or week day?

Always hated that, so basic, I remember thinking it was basic as a little kid, was not impressed by Mr Blobby! Stars in their Eyes on the other hand :disco:
