Harry Potter: the TV series (2 Viewers)

Is there any story reason to set it in the early 90s?
every chapter ends with somebody musing about the parallel between their life and Princess Diana, the only muggle who is truly beloved in the wizarding community. in the eighth book Harry Potter and the Three of Us in This Marriage they use the time turner to prevent her death and she lives the rest of her life in Hogwarts, commentating quidditch.

I saw a Reddit thread about the trailer, the Potterheads seem very excited about it. It does look totally redundant, but who am I to judge after seeing the latest Scream movie in the cinema...

They should just remake The Worst Witch again. That was pure quality.

Not supportive of it for the record!

Just thinking how in a parallel universe where JK wasn’t a piece of shit and her work could also therefore be interpreted charitably I’d probably have still been quite keen. It’s still quite sad to have positive memories from your younger days so badly tainted - see also watching Rolf Harris paint, but a story you immersed yourself in across 7 or so years as if you were “there” has a deeper impact I think.

I was already in my late teens when I read the first book and loved the series. I even went to a midnight sale with a few friends when Deathly Hallows was released.
:hostage:

This really is going to be an utter disaster going on the basis of all the behind the scenes interviews where it makes clear they hadn't at all thought about how difficult it was going to be having child actors produce 10 hours of telly each series, more or less each year, AT THE SAME TIME as having to do schooling and the like :D

I wonder if that’s why ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has quite short episodes and seasons. They need to pump that out every year so the actor doesn’t age out the role.

These poor kids lives are going to be hell for the next 7 years!

Yeah I can’t believe Nicholas doesn’t have plenty of offers - so it feels like an unnecessary own goal - don’t these people have agents/advisors?
The agents/advisors are probably incredibly greedy, ruthless people. But we really have to stop excusing the actors. They’re grown adults with access to all the information we all have. They ultimately just don’t really don’t give a shit.

The vast majority of celebrities are like this sadly.

it's a really interesting litmus test I think. a lot of actors are presumed to be very liberal or progressive. they make token gestures to support for a cetain cause. but how many are willing to reject a pay check? it's good to know who's not.

To be fair to Kit Harrington………. Are there any interesting Tories?

Harington's wife is a major Tory and from a long line of Tories. Apparently he's from the opposite kind of family, but he's definitely in his full piece of shit era now.

Kit Harington is SUCH a Tory

Seen here being a massive Tory in the run up to the 2024 general election :side-eye:

Obvs he's in the STREETING WING of Labour to be joining this cash grab series

His father-in-law, Sebastian Arbuthnot-Leslie, was a local Conservative councillor in Aberdeenshire before being suspended and then running for the Brexit Party.

Proper scum.

Delighted by how unappealing (and truly pointless, like the Harry Potter you ordered off Temu) this looks

The whole thing is such a hot mess and surrounded by negative energy. I’m fascinated by WB’s blissful ignorance to it all

Yeah I still think it'll do fine to very well. All the theme parks and Harry Potter shops are booming for a reason.

But part of me was thinking I might end up secretly watching this and just being disgusted with myself, but this trailer has snapped me out of that

I was hoping to sell a copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (that I bought from the highly overpriced HP World in London in 2015, barely got halfway) but my Harry Potter fan younger sister has claimed it for herself. 😅 She's interested in the new series, despite me expressing how awful the author is... (we don't use any TV streaming services so we're not seeing it anyway ).

To be honest I didn't realise the nasty woman would earn from the new series 😅 but that's just me forgetting the obvious. I'm not interested (but to see how those children end up would be mildly interesting).

I'd read the first 3 Harry Potter books in primary and early highschool and found them alright, way too long, and with Goblet of Fire looking like a dictionary I stopped there. :D The films are okay (I like the Hedwig's Theme tune) but still overrated and over-played on TV, and this series will be too. I found the original actors a bit annoying, but it's good to know they're against the bigotry.
