Crave didn’t have a big budget and they filmed it in 36 days or so and they took the storylines from the first two books for this first season which I think causes the numerous time jumps. Again, I haven’t read the books but people say it’s a pretty faithful adaptation so maybe that’s in the written word as well.

I guess if the story is that they just met a couple of times a season when their paths crossed at matches then there's not really a way to do that without the time jumps or substantially changing the narrative around their relationship.

Anyway I'm assuming we're going to be waiting years for the next season aren't we.
