How do you feel about throuples?

This is how I feel

I find it a bit odd but each to their own… what I’d really like is a separate app just for that because I’m sick of seeing someone quite handsome and then reading they’re in an open relationship.

Great for you but I’m trying to find my own relationship not be a guest star in yours. I can almost accept it on grindr as that really is just a hook up app but they’re all over tinder and hinge and I still see them as more traditional dating apps

I wouldn't be against the concept, although finding two other people who also feel that way seems pretty unlikely.

certainly wouldn't say I think it's weird as I do see the benefits in it and why people would want that kind of relationship. For me though, although I wouldn't say I was particularly fragile, I would imagine it would send my anxiety levels through the roof on a regular basis. For someone that just wants an easy life that's a stress I can easily do without!

I've gone for totally fine, I do find it a bit weird I guess and it's certainly not something I could ever do. But if each member is happy with it then why not. I did actually know a throuple. Man and woman married for years but she fell in love with another woman. She still loved her husband. They chatted. They became a throuple. Went for romantic dinners together, shared a bed together etc.

He's dead now. So they're a couple.

People should absolutely do whatever makes them or whoever they're doing it with happy.

I would find it impossible personally. Threesomes are enough of a minefield as it is!

I know a guy married to his husband for years who were seemingly suddenly in a throuple. It's been a while so I don't think anything of it, but I desperately want to know the sleeping arrangements.

A bigger bed to start off with.

Me too! But when I think about it, I always presume it's going to be something like Mel B's bedroom in MTV Cribs where she'd sewn four doubles together or something :D

Yeah but imagine being the middle one who doesn't get to hug the edge of the duvet and whose face will ALWAYS be having to face someone. :gross: I'd need an end piece please.

Oh god, I wasn't suggesting I could do it for that EXACT reason. FUCK THAT!

Maybe they take it in turns. A rota!

Maybe they top and tail

Sleeping arrangements mean fuck all - I know couples who have separate beds, some due to health reasons, some due to comfort. Doesn't make them any less of a couple.

As for throuples - nothing wrong with it. This is the conversation straight people were having about us years ago.

This is where I land on it, too. I don't consider myself emotionally "brittle" (and even if I was, nothing wrong with that) but I definitely feel like I would be twice as anxious and stressed about it rather than seeing the twice as loved and fulfilled side of things. But maybe that's just a general trait of mine rather than an estimate of whether I'm "fit or unfit to throuple".

How briefly? Isn’t that just a threesome?

Ha, a bit longer than that. A few weeks really. Nothing serious. I was living with my gf and her best mate, who I'd previously had a fling with, and I ended up with a 'girlfriend and a half' for a bit.

I mean, at a wedding, do you have to invite ALL THREE?

Again, replace all three with a gay couple - and that’s what many people would have said years ago. And some still do. I know of weddings where they haven’t invited the same sex partner of someone.

Oh SHUT UP, stop trying to make ridiculous comparisons where there aren’t any.

It’s fuck all to do with not recognising the validity and more about having THREE people to pay for!

Imagine if they ganged up on you?!

Well you should have said that then!

Kala is not wrong, and if you actually talk to people who've been in polyamorous or multiple relationships for a long time it is one of the things they bring up often, that legally and societally they are incredibly off the main recognition track.

The POOR ATTEMPTS at GALLOWS HUMOUR in this thread to avoid having to contemplate hard, naked truths about the societies we've grown up in and the values we are told are inmutable is QUITE SOMETHING to watch.

I don't know, maybe this makes me one of the people this post is about but I just see people making light of a type of relationship setup that everyone here seems to actually support in principle (whether or not they would actually want to engage in one themselves).

This reads very close to OI LIGHTEN UP after expressing discomfort at an inappropriate gay joke by your straight mates back in the 90s. If you can't sense how making fun of something that literally one message above you've been told is a sensitive issue for people who sometimes have to hide these relationships because they are constantly judged by society, maybe you're part of the problem too.
