I love journaling

I have been doing it every morning without fail for over two months now and have found to it to be extremely beneficial.

I love that not only do I get my thoughts from my mind on to paper, but I can then start looking at those thoughts from a number of different angles.

Journaling has helped me gain perspective on certain things, celebrate myself, learn from myself, make plans and get a better grip at what goes on inside my head.

I actually have been journaling for the past two weeks (not every day) and it’s really helping me. My anxiety was getting bad and I decided to do it and I feel like it’s helped me get a handle on things and make some discoveries about myself

I'm a writer at work and I write fiction in my own time, so I don't have the energy to write a journal. I write enough as it is. but I guess there is some crossover since real life details sometimes creep into the fiction.

I keep meaning to look into this, how do you do it @Nancy is there a template as such, or are you writing it like a diary? Are there themes and prompts?

Essentially it is just keeping a personal diary, isn't it? And being more free with writing about feelings and shit.

But when I think of keeping a diary, I just think of work calendars, meetings and appointments, so I guess calling it Journaling it separates it from that.

A friend of mine who's now in her 70s has written in a diary every night since she was a small girl. I regret telling her, twenty years ago, to leave them all to me in her will when she dies because she was lamenting the fact that nobody would ever read them. Hopefully she won't remember :D

Mr L keeps them just the same. Christ knows what he writes in it - considering the AbFab quote 'that's rich coming from someone who lives their life at a level of boredom that would make a battery chicken think of taking up an evening class' is very apt. But I suppose part of me admires the commitment.

I suppose I ought to be more interested in what they do contain than I am :D

It's not so much a record of what I've been doing, but more just what is on my mind as I write or what has been dominating my thoughts and mood. Getting it all out on paper and seeing where that takes me on the page.

I usually have no idea what I'm going to write and even if I do, it can end up going in a completely different direction.

Just remember that you are writing for your eyes only. You're not writing for an audience. It takes a while to learn to trust the page. When you start doing, you will naturally hold back. But as you become more comfortable with the process, you do that less and less.
