I woke up this morning and chose 'Bedtime Stories.'

Seriously, whatever you think about her (or don't actually realise about her), she is regarded as one of the greatest video artistEs of all time.

Yet more evidence of your somewhat...LOCAL tastes. 💅

I don't even know who you're talking about :D I'm just rewatching Arrested Development at the moment and I love that meme.

Also I know it's not the better version, because the original is quite special, but to my tastes I massively prefer the Junior Vasquez mix of Bedtime Story, it just HITS ME THERE.

Much stronger second half.

"I'm not your bitch, don't hang your shit on me."

The Suedehead epitaph has been sorted.

I appreciate it more now than then. I did like it when released but felt she was hopping on to the rnb/urban bandwagon with a touch of added Bjork for credibility and it felt like the first time she’d full out done that.

If this had been released in an era when vinyl & cassettes were still kings then ‘Take A Bow’ would’ve been the perfect closer to side 1.

Human Nature has always been a 10 of course, but I’ve grown tired of it (I think since its awful revival with that version with Britney) and if I were at home now and was listening to the album and was allowed to only skip one song then it would be it.

I grew tired of it but it's come back for me.

I think she needs to retire it tour-wise, though. It just shows you've not had anything else interesting enough to say on the subject for 30 years, love...

Exactly, it worked back then and was the perfect fuck you song, but nowadays with her current awful persona, no thanks.

I've developed a new enjoyment of this album recently during an ongoing/daily Madonna binge (:disco:) and I just really love how much of it is so soulful.

I just love M's 92-01 run the most, but I think bedtime stories had kind of eluded me sandwiched between two of her very best.

Forbidden Love fucks. it's THE Forbidden Love. I love the kind of Erotica callbacks in the production flourishes dotted around a couple of songs. Human Nature is so camp and goofy but also sharp and incisive. Bedtime Story itself is such a strange song (by design) and kind of previews Ray of Light, almost like a jump off point for the post Evita sound she'd find with William Orbit and techno. it really goes hard in that experimental 90s ambient/trancey sound and feels like a sister song to Sky Fits Heaven in a way.

and Take a Bow is just a daydream and until 94 (and probably overall) her best album closing track? and I will always have LOVE for Don't Stop, and I don't give a fuck :disco:

thank god for Madonna basically

instead of spring, it's always winter...
and my heart has always been a lonely hunter...

the Spanish guitar :disco: underrated.

according to somebody on reddit (no source cited) "she wrote this about a pole dancer she saw at a strip club" :disco: if true, surely among the sultriest gems ever written about a pole dancer at a strip club?

08 Inside of Me - I was too harsh on it, it's luscious.

Forbidden Love '05 is a stream of electro unconscious, honeeey. Recycling the title may have benefited from some parenthesis (brackets :basil:), but are we supposed to pit them against each other when they have nothing else in common? I think not. The velvety unfolding of FL '94 is deluxe in texture if not in actual feels. Edit: that middle 8 moment of drama though!

I feel that the album really could have benefited from the 2 unequivocal filler tracks ((un)Welcome and Rather(not)) being swapped out for hopefully what was cut of the Shep tracks that we could be about to hear soon (high hopes indeed).

Regardless, the execution overall is supreme.

I love this, but for goodness sake give the immaculate Sanctuary another try 😱
